It seems you just can't get enough of diving into hell, and while Xbox had a good run at the start of the year with Palworld, it's already PlayStation's turn to grab our attention with Helldivers 2. Arrowhead Game Studios' Starship Troopers-inspired shooter is everywhere right now, and it's getting a lot of praise.
Having dethroned Palworld and soaring to the top of the Steam charts, Helldivers 2 has obliterated Call of Duty's player numbers and become such a hit, its servers can't cope with the pressure. It's not just an inability to jump into Helldivers that's getting you down, as some have discovered a game-breaking glitch.
Helldivers 2 glitch leaves one squad 'lost in space'
We can't think of anything worse than being marooned on some ravaged planet, being attacked by wave upon wave of gnashing bugs or murderous killbots. Still, this was the fate that befell one doomed squad, who reported a Helldivers 2 glitch that left them without an extraction.
As spotted by Dexerto, Twitter user @LilRayms warned fellow players not to call in mortars while trying to extract. Although there were nine minutes left on the clock, the team had completed their mission and called for an extraction. Unfortunately, a shower from the Mortar Sentry left the ship being blasted into the air and away from the team.
One of them warned, "Uh oh, it's going to go through the ship," but it was already too late as the mortar didn't clip through the Pelican, but instead, flipped it away from the extraction point. Although there were plenty of chuckles, one confused player simply said, "How is that even possible."
When someone asked if the ship came back, the OP wrote, "Landed upside down out of the combat zone, zero extracts." Responding to the viral clip, there was hilarity and frustration in equal measure. One fan said, "I love how perfect the amount of bugs are in this game 😆🤣."
Helldivers is a game on the go
Refusing to rest on the laurels of its success, the Arrowhead team is tinkering away beneath the hood of Helldivers 2 and getting the title running as the best game it can be. There are already hopes that the mechs that were promised before launch will be here sooner rather than later.
There's been an influx of hirings at Arrowhead, and if shoring up the game wasn't enough, it's got us hopeful for a DLC roadmap. Most recently, the developer has tackled complaints about players going AFK, having just implemented the 1.000.11 patch that will kick them after 15 minutes.
As AFK players were attributed to the strain on servers, there's a feeling of symbiosis that the few problems Helldivers 2 has will soon be ironed out. At the end of the day, having to apologise because your game is too successful isn't the worst thing in the world.
