We're sure having a fun(gi) time with HBO's The Last of Us, but as we look ahead to the inevitable season two, fans are already spotting a potential problem on the horizon.

Quickly becoming praised as the greatest video game adaptation of all time, The Last of Us' near-perfect score on review aggregator sites also makes it one of the highest-rated TV shows of all time.

With 2013's The Last of Us game also holding the same universal acclaim, it only seems right that Craig Mazin's nine-part series is following in its footsteps. But, what comes next?

Casting Abby Could Be The Last Of Us' Biggest Hurdle

For those who played 2020's The Last of Us Part II, you'll know it goes down in history as one of the most polarising games of all time.

If navigating the game's biggest spoilers being leaked ahead of time wasn't enough, Naughty Dog was also slammed amidst complaints of "unnecessary" diversity. Then we have... the Abby problem.

Abby Anderson is something of a big deal in The Last of Us world, and given that you play as her in the second half of Part II, expect her to be just as big in the series.

From trying to redeem the game's villain to misogynistic claims a woman "shouldn't be that buff," Abby is a problem Game Director and show Executive Producer Neil Druckmann is likely to face all over again.

Although Pedro Pascal's "daddy Joel" has been largely accepted by all, we've already seen The Last of Us' few critics call out Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey for not looking enough like Ellie in the games. If you think that's bad, just wait until we have to cast Abby in season two or the mythical season three.

Who Could Play Abby In The Last Of Us?

As usual, the internet is awash with fan castings on who could play the misunderstood Ms. Anderson. Over on Twitter, one fan championed Solo: A Star Wars Story's Erin Kellyman. Someone else suggested Killing Eve's Jodie Comer.

Even though we might be far from finding out who will play Abby, there's already a frontrunner. Namely, Don't Worry Darling and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Florence Pugh.

It's not just one call for Pugh, with another writing, "Cast Florence Pugh as Abby in the second season of The Last of Us you cowards."

Another added, "Just saw a headline "Fans Have Cast The Perfect Abby for The Last of Us Season 2" and thought for f**k's sake, I'm sure they have...  *Opened the article* Florence Pugh. Oh... my... God. That, as a concept, blows me the f**k away."

Ultimately, we're never going to please anyone. Casting someone with the star status of Pugh would hopefully put some of these fears to bed, and with her being a hot property right now, it makes a lot of sense.

There's an eight-year age gap between Ramsey and Pugh, but remember, we don't know how the series will handle a potential time jump. We say, save Abby until season three, so we can make the most out of Ellie and Joel.

For all we know though, HBO could've already cast Abby and her father for a season one twist at St. Mary's hospital that sets her up as the big bad of season two and beyond.
