Last of Us Season 2 could be up Schitt’s Creek in the best way
If you're ready for more mushroom madness, HBO's The Last of Us Season 2 is growing in the dark. We know Bella Ramsey and Pedro Pascal will be back to try and survive the apocalypse in the next chapter of the live-action adaptation.
As we head into the events of Naughty Dog's The Last of Us Part II, a new crop of characters are set to join the fold. Madame Web's Isabela Merced, Beef's Young Mazin, and Booksmart's Kaitlyn Dever have all been added to the cast, but now, we're hearing something of an acting legend could also lend her talents to this woeful world.
Catherine O'Hara rumoured for The Last of Us Season 2
According to insider Daniel Richtman, the iconic Catherine O'Hara could be joining The Last of Us Season 2. Known for her roles in Beetlejuice, Home Alone, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, O'Hara had a more recent resurgence thanks to her part as Moira Rose in Schitt's Creek.
O'Hara has upcoming roles in Argylle and Beetlejuice 2, but could she be lured back to the small screen? Richtman claims she'll be playing a new character called "Gail," who will feature in three episodes. As there's no one called Gail in Naughty Dog's games, we're a little in the dark here.
The Last of Us Season 2 is set to tell just a fraction of Part II, with showrunner Craig Mazin ideally aiming for a four-season run. This would spread Part II's story across an epic three seasons. Even though the 2020 game is much bigger than the original, all this extra storytelling leaves room for new characters like Gail.
We need Catherine O'Hara in The Last of Us Season 2
Click to enlargeDespite there being no details on who Gail could be, we're reminded of Yellowjackets' Melanie Lynskey playing the villainous Kathleen in Season 1. We'd hope that Gail is one of the rare good characters in the world of The Last of Us, but remember, nothing is official yet.
Given O'Hara's cult status, we aren't alone in championing her for a role in The Last of Us Season 2. One fan cheered, "This is the news I never knew I needed 🙌😎," while another added, "Hope she takes it! Cast is stacked." A third theorised, "100% Abby's mom."
It would be a little on the nose for "Gail" to be the mum of AbiGAIL (Abby), and there are a lot of theories she could be the Seraphite Prophet. Either way, the fact The Last of Us Season 2 isn't releasing until 2025 means we've got plenty of time to speculate.
