Come on, give us Jill Valentine, you cowards. The S.T.A.R.S. staple has been MIA from mainline Resident Evil games since Resident Evil 5, so if we were going to see her again, Resident Evil 9 looks like a logical place.

Following the runaway success of 2021's Resident Evil Village, it was no surprise that Capcom quickly gave a ninth main entry the green light. Things have gone quiet since then, but with a Capcom showcase on the way, we could finally get a proper Resident Evil 9 announcement.

When is the Capcom showcase?

We can barely move for gaming showcases right now, with PlayStation and Xbox holding their own presentations on either side of Summer Games Fest. Now, Capcom has decided to also join the party. The Capcom livestream is coming on June 12 at 3PM PDT/6PM EDT/11PM BST.

With 36 minutes of Capcom chaos on the way, players are rightly trying to figure out what's on the way. Alongside hype for a long-awaited Dino Crisis remaster (we can only hope), there are dreams of a mythical Resident Evil 9 announcement.

Twitter has exploded with excitement that Capcom could be cooking up something big for Resident Evil 9, but considering the developer didn't start teasing Resident Evil 7 until 2016 (RE6 came out in 2012), we might be a little early yet. Also, something as big as RE9 would surely warrant a Summer Game Fest announcement.

More likely, all things related to Resident Evil will be focussed on the recent Resident Evil 4 remake and confirmation of an Ada Wong DLC. If we hear anything on Resident Evil 9, it'll probably be a reminder that the team is "hard at work," bringing us the next iteration of the Resiverse.

What do we know about Resident Evil 9?

Apart from the fact another game is on the way, details on Resident Evil 9 are thin on the ground. Originally, it was supposed to be the third part of a Winters Trilogy, until Village's Shadows of Rose DLC reportedly rounded off that story.

Given the post-credit tease of Rose working for Chris Redfield, we expect gruff daddy Chris will be back for more, although there's seemingly been a pretty big time jump. As so many Resi faves have been MIA for a while, we can only guess who'll be back for more.

We know Ada Wong was cut from Village, and alongside the long-missing Ms. Valentine, she'd be a welcome addition. Elsewhere, there were major "trust me bro" leaks that RE9 will include a female BOW assisting players as we fight wendigos and other mythical monsters.

All of this is just hearsay, and while Capcom is surely hard at work on Resident Evil 9, we've learned to manage our expectations before. Even a sniff of what's going on behind the scenes could make up for the disappointment we got Exoprimal instead of a Dino Crisis revival, but don't hold your breath.
