Taking a leaf out of Thanos' Avengers: Endgame book, some things are inevitable. However, just like the Mad Titan had his plans to wipe out half the population ruined, it seems the death of Lenny Summer in the Red Dead series isn't written in stone. It's been nearly three years since Red Dead Redemption 2 pulled its pistols, and now, players have found a way to save Lenny.

As the third entry in the Red Dead series, 2018's Red Dead Redemption 2 continued the success of 2010's reboot and opened up the Old West like never before. Swapping out John Marston for the even more rugged Arthur Morgan, Red Dead Redemption 2 rightly goes down in history as one of the best games ever. There isn't much we'd change, however, given the chance to save Lenny from his tragic demise is one thing we'd definitely love to see.

How do you save Lenny in Red Dead Redemption 2?

In the game, a key turning point for the Van der Linde gang is the robbery of the Saint-Denis bank. Although it's meant to be one last job where everyone can retire, it turns into a botched bloodbath where Hosea Matthews and Lenny lose their lives.

Posting online, Twitch streamer SWOL, aka @TRUESWOLDIER, shared a clip where Arthur heroically steps in. Seemingly made with mods, Arthur goes full Superman and grabs Lenny from his bullet-riddled fate. It's all for a bit of comedy, with SWOL playing The Never Ending Story theme song over the clip as Arthur grabs Lenny and flies off to safety. Awww, we do love a happy ending.

Unfortunately, there's no information on how you can also save Lenny, meaning that most Red Dead Redemption 2 players will have to watch the sympathetic character die over and over again. Importantly though, Lenny's scripted death all fits the narrative of the Van der Linde gang. Apart from Charles Smith, most of these rogues are destined to be dead by the time both games come to a close.

How does saving Lenny change Red Dead Redemption 2?

The debate about saving Lenny is actually an age-old question. Back in 2019, players on Reddit were asking if there was a way to prevent Lenny from being shot. Despite offering fans a number of choices throughout the main campaign of Red Dead 2, rescuing Lenny unfortunately isn't one that's meant to be.

Saving Lenny in Red Dead Redemption 2 is all well and good, but ultimately, it wouldn't save Arthur Morgan from his tuberculosis. There's no secret ending in Red Dead 2 where he gets to live to fight another day. This means Morgan is brown bread before Red Dead Redemption comes around 12 years later - and John Marston goes after Dutch Van der Linde.

We'd love to imagine some Loki-inspired scenario where Arthur and Lenny flew off across the desert and found a way to cure his TB, but it's just a pipe dream. All we need now is to find a way to save Arthur Morgan and John Marston. Jeez, this series doesn't exactly have a great track record with saving its protagonists. At least we now know we can technically save Lenny in Red Dead Redemption 2 - if only as a bit of fun.
