Fans of the upcoming Pokemon Legends: Arceus got a quick glimpse of the game's immense landscape and the breathtaking green wilderness of the Hisui region when Nintendo released the game's map.

From the map, it seemed that Arceus would be an open-world game in which players could set off on adventures far across Hisui. However, it's looking even less likely that Arceus will be a fully open-world game at all. Rather, there's a chance that it actually be split into two separate areas instead of one whole map.

Is Pokemon Legends: Arceus An Open-World Game?

When the trailer for Pokemon Legends: Arceus was revealed by Nintendo in February 2021, fans were blown away by the game's luscious landscape and gave viewers major The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild vibes. Although one Twitter user has pointed out that Pokemon Legends: Arceus will be less like Breath Of The Wild and more Monster Hunter in terms of its world design.

If this is the case, Arceus players will have to start in one area and then work their way through to other areas of the map. Despite the game initially being believed to be open-world, there's actually a fair bit of evidence from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company to prove otherwise.

For example, the August Pokemon Direct on the official Pokemon YouTube channel claimed: "The bustling Jubalife village will be the base for your adventures".

Players can return to the village when the task is done and speak to the resident NPC's to start new quests. Any Monster Hunter players out there will recognise the game's influence on Pokemon Legends: Arceus.

What Do Fans Think About Pokemon Legends: Arceus Not Being An Open-World Game?

Of course, Arceus not being an open-world game isn't always a bad thing. One Twitter user commented on the OG post and said: "Much rather have a great 'semi-open world' map with no performance issues than an empty open world just for the sake of being open world."

Another argued that the map doesn't disregard the idea of the game being open-world at all: "Pretty much open world without allowing you to immediately jump right into the final boss like in breath of the wild right?".

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is set for release on January 28, 2022. Hopefully, Nintendo will clear things up in the meantime. Nintendo has been very generous in the plethora of information and trailers they have shared about the game, so far.
