MW3 Zombies is already coming back from the dead

Despite its love among horror-hungry fans, Zombies hasn't had the best few years. The Call of Duty mode has earned its icon status by creating a community almost entirely separate from the core shooter franchise, with World at War and the Black Ops series elevating it from a mini-game to Easter egg-laden masterworks.

As the most recent instalment in the franchise, Modern Warfare 3 has given the mode a good crack but never succeeded in bringing it back to life in any meaningful way. Even though Treyarch has seemingly given up to focus on 2024's rumoured Black Ops Gulf War, it looks like the team isn't finished yet.

Modern Warfare 3's Zombies is about to kick back into gear

Treyarch has revealed that its work on MW3 Zombies has led to some major upcoming changes, which are set to drop at some point during the current Season 3.

After announcing the news to creators in an exclusive showcase, Treyarch can now reveal that the mode's stash has been dramatically widened with a new double size. Zombies is also set to add cooldowns for exfil schematics.

Increasing stash size is a feature that's regularly demanded by players, so this will come as a treat to those still playing Zombies. Still, many who engaged with MW3's Zombies when it first came out have now dropped it in favour of classic titles.

When can we expect the new features for MW3 Zombies?

If you're compelled by the new Zombies changes and are willing to return to the zombified Urzikstan, you might have a bit of a wait on your hands. It looks as though this new update follows Season 2's controversial structure.

The last lot of Zombies changes came about a month after launch and were largely mired by the release of cash-grab The Walking Dead skins. It'll be one hell of a wait for the three of you still playing MW3's Zombies, but it's at least a nice look at what's to come from our terrifying Treyarch overlords.
