It's that time of year again, and as we gear up for the seemingly never-ending cycle of Call of Duty games, Treyarch is looking down the crosshairs of its next entry. We know that the acclaimed Zombies developer has finished its tenure with 2023's Modern Warfare 3 - now turning its attention to the next chapter.

While we were once told Activision was going to skip out on yearly releases after the highs of 2022's Modern Warfare 2, it quickly became clear that dollar signs were ringing in the publisher's eyes. MW3 arrived to a divisive reception, being called little more than a $70 DLC, but will it be business as usual this time around?

Call of Duty 2024's beta could be here soon

The next CoD has the makings of a great game, apparently serving as a sequel to the beloved Black Ops Cold War and once again putting Treyarch in the driving seat. As we wait for the return of Adler and co., the writing is on the wall about whether the rumoured Black Ops Gulf War can deliver.

Our first look at CoD 2024 will be a big turning point, but after suitably bombastic trailers, it's the game's beta that will be the decider. Activision regularly gives us insight into what comes next via closed and open betas, and according to @MW3CODInformer, we only have a matter of months to wait.

Apparently, the first Black Ops Gulf War beta will be taking place in August 2024. The same account has suggested classic Black Ops maps will find a new home here, and like MW3 revamped old Modern Warfare maps, the likes of Hangar18 and Standoff might be getting a facelift.

Black Ops Gulf War should launch in October

These rumoured beta dates line up with Microsoft CEO Phil Spencer telling employees the next Call of Duty will launch in October. This is nothing out of the ordinary, and although the likes of MW3, Vanguard, and Black Ops Cold War all released in November, 2022's MW2 leapt into action in October.

Activision has already sketched out its CoDverse plans through to 2027, but with the franchise being a major selling point of Microsoft's Activision Blizzard acquisition, it's no surprise so much time and money is being spent here.

As for Black Ops Gulf War, it's tipped to add open-world campaigns and be more akin to Far Cry than previous CoD games. With Treyarch also back at the helm, we're expecting big things from the Zombies cohort. We've been burned too many times before, but if it all works out, CoD 2024 could be one for the ages.
