Update: The official Helldivers 2 Twitter has confirmed that the Automatons we defeated were just a vanguard. An even bigger force of rotten robots is on the way and has launched an attack on Cyberstan. Original story below.

Our work is never done. We've known for a while that the Arrowhead Game Studios team has been lying to us - after all, claims that bugs don't fly and blue beams aren't firing out of the sky in Helldivers 2 don't count for much in the face of actual eyewitness accounts of those same flying bugs and blue beams.

We're clearly on our own, but dammit, we've never needed anything but ourselves. There's a lot of misinformation out there, and it seems something has slipped through the cracks. Now, legions of Helldivers are reporting the appearance of Automatons...even after their supposed eradication.

Automatons have been spotted post-defeat

They're still out there. Despite the Helldivers team claiming that Operation Swift Disassembly has been a roaring success, there are players sharing that they're still waging war against existing Automatons.

The reports have been flying out on Reddit as players express their sheer distress at still being pinned down by the mechanical menace. It comes after one player warned, "We’re still fighting ‘em on Maia! SEND DUDES."

Another shrieked, "IT DOESN’T END TILL I SAY IT DOES," launching into a fight in an operation on the same planet. Of course, the Helldivers 2 team has plenty of fun misleading us - but what exactly is going on here? Why are players still having to fight for a galaxy liberated from the angry microwaves?

The final Automatons are being eradicated

It seemed like the Automatons were finished, but as some have active missions that were never completed due to simply choosing the quickplay function, they're being forced to jump back into battle to finish the job against the enemy faction that should be dead.

Don't panic - this doesn't seem to be another case of failed propaganda or further misleading - it's just a gameplay mechanic that doesn't want players to fail to access their older fights and not reap their rewards. The Automatons should soon be gone for good, but the question is, what deadly foe comes next?
