As far as major AAA games released in 2021 go, Halo Infinite didn’t do too badly, especially when compared with its direct rivals, Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042. 343 Industries' game is a huge amount of fun and has a level of polish that escapes those other two titles, though that isn’t to say it hasn’t been without its issues.

Halo Infinite launched without its beloved co-op singleplayer experience and, less beloved but no less important, Forge, the community map and game mode maker.

There have also been problems with the matchmaking system. Big Team Battles has barely functioned - though it's been in better shape recently - while regular players have often complained of being matched in servers far away from their locations.

That’s subsequently had an effect on the rank system and it has come as no surprise today that 343 Industries has announced that a complete rank reset is on the way.

Halo Infinite To Get First Rank Reset

In a blog postHalo Community Manager John Junyszek explained that since its launch Halo Infinite’s ranking system has been “overly generous” to players.

To combat this, an update is set to be rolled out that aims to combat “rank inflation, inaccurate skill assessment, uneven player skills, and more.” Because of those changes, everyone’s Competitive Skill Ranking (CSR) will be reset with all players having to complete placement matches once again.

Junyszek also cautioned players that their rank will likely be one whole band lower than before, saying, “Please keep in mind that this is not due to an error in the new system, but an error in the old one.”

Those worried that all their hard work is gone were given some solace. Previously, the highest you could rank out of your placements was previously Diamond 1, this has been raised to Diamond 5, while typically your starting rank would be artificially lowered after placement to give players room to progress, this discrepancy has been reduced for this particular rank reset.

Junyszek revealed that Halo Infinite’s rank reset will take place on Tuesday, February 22, in the “afternoon”. Junyszek also reiterated that more information about the promised comprehensive “February update” would be coming on Friday (Feb 18).

So, if you usually grind Halo Infinite’s ranked mode it might be worth taking a few days off until the reset and instead, why not learn everything you need to know about the upcoming Halo TV series.
