To quote the legendary Beyonce Knowles, "I can see your halo." After years of false starts and failed movie plans, a live-action Halo series is taking 343 Industries' chart-topping gaming franchise to a new medium. It's a suitably glossy affair, apart from one small problem - everyone hates Cortana.

Since the early days of this sci-fi shooter, the usually loyal Cortana has been by Master Chief's side. His AI companion has become a staple of the series, and alongside John-117 himself, is arguably one of the most recognisable faces. Jen Taylor reprising her role from the games should be great news, but instead, we're left disappointed.

Why Do Halo Fans Hate The New Cortana?

In Paramount's Halo series, Orange is the New Black's Pablo Schreiber has landed the coveted role of Master Chief. The first trailer has given fans old and new a first insight into what's going on in the Spartan war, however, we already know Halo will be set in its own timeline that is separate from the canon of the games.

As you can imagine, a first look at Halo is trending on Twitter, with everything from Schreiber's Master Chief to the lethal energy swords taking up the conversation. Sadly, Taylor's live-action (well, not quite) Cortana has left us feeling blue.

A quick search of the Twitterverse shows that fans aren't over the moon with Cortana's CGI look. From the fact it basically looks like a render from the games to complaints she isn't blue enough, Cortana isn't exactly flavour of the month right now. One critic wrote, "Other than Cortana, everything in this trailer looks f*****g SICK. Can’t wait." Another joked, "Halo ppl mad about Cortana not being blue enough LEAST YALL ARE GETTING A SHOW *cries in Gears of War*".

When Is The Halo Series Out?

Cortana aside, Halo looks like it will be one of this year's big hitters. Alongside the Tom Holland-led Uncharted movieSonic the Hedgehog 2, HBO's The Last of Us series, and even the maligned Chris Pratt Mario movie, 2022 is looking HUGE for video game adaptations.

Hopefully, Halo will be a faithful retelling of the Xbox-exclusive franchise. We're in something of a Halo renaissance, with last year's Halo Infinite being the long-awaited sequel to 2015's Guardians. As for the Paramount series, we now know Master Chief will be barging his way onto our screens on March 24. You can catch all episodes of Paramount's new Paramount+ series. Who knows, maybe we'll even get a blue Cortana?
