While there's no escaping the pulling power of Grand Theft Auto, the "definitive" edition of the GTA Trilogy wasn't actually as definitive as we'd hoped it would be.

The launch of the triple-pack of remasters featuring San Andreas, Vice City and GTA III was tipped to be a return to the golden era of the franchise, but the quality of the remasters, and the sheer sum of bugs that plagued the games made sure that the collection crashed and burned.

Fans have barely thought about it since - or, rather, they've tried to forget about it - aside from the iOS and Android release in December 2023. But now, it looks like there could be a light shining on the horizon for the trilogy.

GTA Trilogy Steam page changes indicate bug fixes

Well, better late than never, we suppose. While the PC release of the GTA Trilogy has gone mostly untouched since its launch, many expected that it has been left to die. Now, Redditors have pointed out that changes to the game's Steam page hint that bug fixes are in the works.

Shared to the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, Twitter user videotechuk_ has revealed that some changes have been discovered on the SteamDB page for GTA: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition, and they suggest that a new update could be yet to come.

It's thought that the bug fixes that have been rolled out on the mobile port of the collection could be coming to PC, and it's about damn time. The GTA Trilogy PC port has been without help for a while, so this could indicate that we're finally going to be able to play a trilogy that’s, you know, playable.

Fans react to GTA Trilogy bug fix rumours

While any fix is welcome, there are some who aren't sure about the fact that Rockstar subdivision Grove Street Games is focusing more on a mobile port than a PC one, and some think that the changes are too little, too late.

"So the definitively worst versions of the games may eventually become slightly less bad? Okay," said one user on Reddit. "I'd still rather them redo the whole thing again…" added another. "Quality wise should be much closer to Mafia…"

It's a shame that the once-lauded trilogy has been neglected for so long, but hey, at least some much-needed bug fixes could serve as some kind of future-proofing. We can only hope.
