When thinking about the Halo soundtrack, it's hard to imagine it as being influenced by anything else in pop culture. After all, its haunting choral theme is so widely beloved that it became a meme in its own right and stands as one of the greatest achievements in video game music ever

Who could forget the Halo franchise's incredibly bombastic battle themes and sombre interjective orchestral pieces? It's a big part of the DNA of video game music at this stage - and Halo Infinite's score is no different in quality. But, equally, the soundtrack had an interesting influence in the form of Dua Lipa.

How Did Dua Lipa Inspired Halo Infinite's Music?

As it turns out, Dua Lipa and her latest record, Future Nostalgia, have served as a point of reference for the haunting music that accompanies Halo Infinite. In an interview with NME, Halo Infinite Composer Alex Bhore has cited the pop artist as a surprising influence on the creation of the music of the game.

"I have a lot of respect for Dua Lipa," he says, in reference to Future Nostalgia. "It's crazily explosive and bright, but still compressed… you can have it [playing] non-stop and say 'I still want to listen to this, I can't say I'm fatigued.'

"And maybe there's something emotionally thematic in the Halo soundtrack coming off these records, because I like to cherry-pick records and artists I like. So perhaps there is some emotional quality that rubs off on me, that then rubs off on the work I do."

Halo Infinite's Composer Has An 'Influences' Playlist

Luckily, if you wanted to take an even deeper dive into what made the Halo Infinite soundtrack what it is, Bhore has made a playlist on Spotify that runs through some pivotal tracks, including tracks from the likes of Deftones, Slowdive, Tangerine Dream, and Tim Hecker.

You can listen to the playlist below.

The music of Halo Infinite may be incredibly in keeping with the atmosphere of the entire franchise, but it's interesting to see it that it was influenced by such strange and unpredictable places. We're just glad that Deftones had something to do with it, to be perfectly honest.
