Don't Get Too Excited - New Wolverine Game Is 'Very Early' In Development
Marvel's Wolverine had its big reveal moment during the electrifying PlayStation Showcase on September 9. In less than a minute, the trailer was able to send X-Men fans into a frenzy over its announcement. However, Ryan Schneider, Head of Franchise Strategy & Studio Relations at Insomniac Games, was quick to inform excited fans that they could be in for a long wait until the game is released.
When Will Marvel's Wolverine Be Released?
In a new post for the PlayStation blog, Schneider said: "Marvel's Wolverine is still very early in development", but "from what I've seen of its emotional narrative and cutting-edge gameplay (see what I did there?), the team is already creating something truly special". So, an official release date is very far away.
Wolverine fans will clearly be eager to play as the clawed crusader. Whilst Logan has appeared in numerous games over the years, there hasn't been a solo game for the character since 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game.
Since then, Marvel fans have witnessed one of their favourite superheroes in the series go through some fantastic character development, in part, due to Hugh Jackman's exceptional performances in the film franchise. No doubt 2017's critically acclaimed Logan still has fans sobbing uncontrollably (no spoilers, don't worry).
Who Is Making Marvel's Wolverine Video Game?
Marvel's Wolverine is being directed by Brian Horton, creative director, and Cameron Christian, game director. Both directors were behind Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales and, given its huge success, it's safe to say that Wolverine is in great hands.
The reason why Marvel's Wolverine is still in its early stages is that Insomniac Games is currently developing the next instalment in the Spider-Man game franchise. After months of speculation, the PlayStation showcase gave fans an exclusive look into the upcoming Spider-Man 2 video game. The clip went on to unveil the thrilling return of one of Spider-Man's arch-enemies. Unfortunately, the big reveal was spoilt for one annoyed fan.
This tiny glimpse into Wolverine might be the only taste that Marvel fans get of the video game for a long while. So, don't get those retractable claws out just yet, but maybe get your webslinger ready.
