When it comes to seminal horrors, few come close to touching the Dead Space games - well, at least the first two. Drawing influences from the Resident Evil and Silent Hill games, Dead Space gave us horror in space when Alien: Isolation was still an egg inside the Alien Queen.

While EA Redwood's Dead Space was a moderate hit in 2008, that was nothing compared to the runaway success of Visceral Games' Dead Space 2 in 2011. Despite being a critical smash, Dead Space 2 wasn't the commercial chart-topper EA hoped for. 13 years later, could a Dead Space 2 remake give it the kudos it deserves?

EA blunder could be hinting at a Dead Space 2 remake

With the breakneck speed the industry moves, it's easy to forget that Motive Studio released a Dead Space remake in 2023. Although it struggled against the Dead Space-inspired The Callisto Protocol, the Dead Space remake still brought in big numbers for EA and sparked hopes of a continued series of revamps.

When EA shared Dead Space merch, eagle-eyed gamers noticed that the image in the background was pulled from Dead Space 2 instead of the original. It's possible that this was a mistake, but with it looking like a souped-up version, the rumour mill has started turning.

The news was shared on the GamingLeaksandRumours subreddit, where the OP wrote, "Very, very likely nothing. It's still interesting that they elected to use Dead Space 2 to promote this instead of the Remake. A possible hint of things to come."

One fan cheered, "I am so ready to shove another needle in Isaac’s eye in glorious 4K," and another added, "I don't think anyone would not want a DS2 remake, it's one of the best video games of all time." Not everyone agreed, as someone concluded, "There's no need to remake DS2, the game still holds up incredibly well, they should remake the 3rd one or make DS4."

Give us a Dead Space remake trilogy

You don't have to look very far to see the success of remakes. Even though we're disappointed that Konami has skipped over a Silent Hill remake in favour of Silent Hill 2, Capcom has been carving a new legacy with its Resident Evil Remakes. Away from the GameCube REmake, 2019's Resident Evil 2 remake is easily one of the best of all time.

Dead Space previously hinted at a Dead Space 2 remake, with its new ending and several Easter eggs suggesting this isn't the end of the story. Not long after the Dead Space remake was released, EA was already asking players if they'd be interested in a remake trilogy

As someone else pointed out, our dreams of a Dead Space 2 remake could be a way off. Motive is currently working on its Iron Man game, and unless it magically founded another team, a Dead Space 2 remake would likely come after this. Either way, we're ready to put Isaac through the wringer all over again.
