Despite the remake of the original Dead Space being a critical darling in 2023, it seems its sequel won't be receiving the same treatment, with a remake of Dead Space 2 seemingly shelved as a result of its predecessor's lacklustre sales.

Instead, it seems Motive is going to be focusing on some different IPs, namely Iron Man and Battlefield titles instead of the iconic horror game.

Update: Since this story broke, a spokesperson from EA has reportedly told IGN "We don't normally comment on rumors but there is no validity to this story."

Dead... again?

While discussing the upcoming future of Motive's next titles, Jeff Grubb of Giant Bomb, stated that "they are going to be a two-project team going forward, and that is going to be Iron Man and Battlefield."

Expanding on this, Grubb went on to say that "they were working on Dead Space 2, and they are no longer working on it. It is on the shelf because the first game had lacklustre sales, is how it was phrased to me."

However, since this story broke, a spokesperson from EA has reportedly told IGN that this isn't the case, casting further doubts on the future of the franchise. Telling IGN that there is "no validity to this story", it begs the question of whether or not a remake was ever on the cards.

Could we see a Dead Space 2 remake in the future?

While I'm ever the optimist and like to say 'never say never', this isn't the first time Dead Space seemingly met its end. Following notorious critical response to the original third entry, the series went on hiatus, until new hope was reignited with the stellar remake of last year.

Grubb said that while the game was in pre-production, it has since been put on ice for now. “So if you were looking forward to Dead Space 2, it’s straight-up bad news. Does this mean it never happens? I don’t know if that’s the case, but as it stands right now, they were working on it.”

Only time will tell whether or not Dead Space 2 will see the light of day. With EA refuting the initial claims it had been shelved, it looks like we'll still be suiting up in Iron Man before that day comes.
