A Cyberpunk 2077 developer has confirmed the differences between the free 2.0 update and the paid Phantom Liberty expansion.

Both the update and expansion will be coming later this month and between them, a lot of new content will be added to the RPG.

The free update 2.0 and paid expansion will each bring different things to the Cyberpunk experience

Phantom Liberty Quest Director, Pawel Sasko, took to Twitter to clarify the differences between the two, and confirmed that there was more to each of the updates than what was included in the infographic.

He said: “Tons of you chooms asked for clarification, so here you go, patch 2.0 and Phantom Liberty swag  The “much more” contains small surprises, not even on this list.”

The infographic states that the free update will include a redesigned skill tree and perks, revamped cyberware, a new capacity system, vehicle combat and car chases, improved combat AI, and a new police system. The patch will also bring UI and UX improvements, loot, item and crafting changes, and new radio stations.

Conversely, the Phantom Liberty expansion will bring a whole new district called Dogtown to the game, as well as a brand new storyline and characters. There will be new quests, gigs, boss fights, vehicle missions, and airdrops. There will also be an all-new relic skill tree and abilities, over 100 new items, and an increased level cap.

From the infographic released by CD Projekt Red it seems that, while some new elements will be added in the 2.0 patch, it will be largely quailty of life improvements, whereas the Phantom Liberty expansion will provide a lot more content to dive into.

When will the updates be available?

The Phantom Liberty expansion will be released on 26 September 2023, exclusively for PC and new-gen consoles. The expansion is priced at £24.99 or $29.99.

There is currently no confirmed date for when patch 2.0 will be released. Many players are speculating that the free update will arrive before the paid expansion comes out, however we will have to wait and see.
