Call Of Duty: Warzone Finally Confirms The End Of Verdansk
Raven Software might be the developer behind the battle royale behemoth Call of Duty: Warzone, however, it's out with the old and in with the new. We've had a good run with Verdansk since last year, but now, Raven has confirmed that when Season 6 comes to a close, we'll be leaving Verdansk behind for good.
Verdansk is the current iteration of Warzone and has served as the main arena since its inception. Since its arrival, Verdansk has been overhauled with changes like taking it back in time to an ‘80s setting to matching Black Ops Cold War. Still, it's fundamentally remained the same Verdansk.
What’s happening with Verdansk?
Raven revealed its intention to move on in a video that detailed changes coming to Warzone and highlighted their ideas for sending Verdansk off into the night. A developer from Raven explained that "Season 6 will be our last time in Verdansk, so we wanted to do something special and bring back the original gulag."
They went on to add "The classic showers, players loved it, so we're happy to bring it back for Season 6. Season 6 is full of content and secrets from map updates and fissures in the ground [to] World War II buried bunkers, easter eggs, the return of the original gulag, a new Halloween event with a brand new game mode; Season 6 is going to be jam-packed with content and I can't wait for players to experience this."
What do fans think about Verdansk's demise?
Though it’s sad to know the iconic map will be leaving us soon, with fans echoing the sentiment, others are understandably happy at a new map to explore. One Twitter user stated "Finally, I'm kinda tired of the entire franchise being based on this one fictional city for some bullsh*t reason to justify battle royale canonically."
Another seemed worried when they added, "I know all the good camping spots, how will I compete if they make a completely new map?" A third concluded, "It was cool the first time (MW time), it was annoying the 2nd time (Cw time) if they did it the third time, I would have flipped."
Raven hasn't delivered more details on how it intends to transition from Verdansk to the new map, but we can expect to hear more information soon as Season 6 wraps up. By the sounds of it, the tanks of World War II will be rolling in to bulldoze the Warzone we've come to know in favour of a Vanguard-themed map.
