Dead Island 2 gives players the choice of more characters than any previous entry, allowing you to select from a list of six during the game's starting cutscene. Each character has their own small differences based on their starting stats and innate skills, meaning it can be hard to figure out who is the best.

Best Dead Island 2 characters ranked: Ryan

Ryan ranks top of our Dead Island 2 Slayers tier list due to his passive abilities, Retaliation and Seesaw. The first gives him a force boost when blocking or dodging an attack, allowing you to really hit zombies hard with follow-up attacks.

Seesaw is perfect for sustaining yourself, allowing Ryan to regain health when knocking an enemy down. Both his innate skills pair up perfectly and make Ryan the best character in Dead Island 2.

Dani brings the pain all the way from Ireland and has two of the strongest innate skills, though they don't pair as well as Ryan's.

Bloodlust lets her regain health when slaying multiple zombies quickly, and with so many zombies roaming LA, you'll have no trouble triggering this. Thunderstruck also allows her heavy attacks to trigger explosions on impact, forcing groups of zombies in every direction. All in all, her kit positions her as one of the best characters.

Best Dead Island 2 characters ranked: Bruno

Our third spot goes to Lil Pump wannabe Bruno, who has some of the highest potential damage of the Slayers. His Backstab ability lets him deal more damage when attacking enemies from behind, and Rapid Reprisal boosts his agility and heavy attack charges when dodging or blocking. 

With both of these skills, Bruno is well-placed to hit hard and avoid damage at the same time, making him one of the best Dead Island 2 characters.

Best Dead Island 2 characters ranked: Jacob

Jacob is the Slayer for players who like fast attacks and dealing rapid, successive damage. His first innate skill, Feral, compliments this playstyle perfectly, allowing you to get a stackable damage boost when attacking in quick succession.

Critical Gains is the other skill which gives players a critical damage boost when their stamina is low after a flurry of attacks. Critical hits also regain stamina, so focusing your crit chance can stop Jacob from ever getting tired in a fight.

Best Dead Island 2 characters ranked: Carla

On the lower side of our list of the Dead Island 2 best characters ranked is Carla, a stunt rider who knows how to risk it all. Her first skill, Dig Deep, gives her a toughness boost when her health is critical, making it one of the riskiest skills to make use of.

Her second is much more useful during your adventures around LA, as Mosh Pit gives Carla a damage boost when close to multiple zombies, which will be a common occurrence during a playthrough.

Our final pick is Amy, who is ranked as the worst Dead Island 2 Slayer purely due to her innate skills being a little worse than the rest of the pack. Firstly, there is Divide and Conquer, which gives Amy a damage boost around isolated zombies, essentially making it an inferior version of Carla's Mosh Pit skill.

Her second skill is Relief Pitcher, which helps her regain stamina after hitting a zombie with a weapon throw, which is a less common way you'll be attacking the undead.
