If you're wondering how big the Baldur's Gate 3 map size is, we have it listed right here. After nearly three years in early access, Baldu's Gate 3 has finally arrived on PC, with the PlayStation 5 version arriving next month on September 6.

Even in its early access phase, Baldur's Gate 3 offered a sprawling map to explore, but with the full release, its map size has increased exponentially, allowing players to traverse distinct locales featured in the Forgotten Realms setting of Dungeons & Dragons.

That alone can be overwhelming, some of you may be panicking about the sheer scope of this D&D-themed adventure. So, here are some exact details regarding the map size in Baldur's Gate 3.

The Wilderness itself will be your mainstay throughout the adventure, which offers what can be described as seamless exploration.

Let's take the recently released The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom as an example for comparison's sake. In Tears of the Kingdom, exploration is split between three areas of the Sky, Land, and Depths, while Baldur's Gate 3 focuses on the Wilderness and Underdark.

However, BG3 also features additional unique locations that may require the player to enter a completely new map loading screen. In a sense, the scope of these two games is similar, as both adventures focus on player agency and non-linear traversal.

Despite its large map size, Baldur's Gate 3 allows players to explore the world at their own pace, as the game design focuses on NPC interaction and personal character development.

Baldur's Gate 3 has a large, sprawling world connected through the wilderness, and it's up to you (and possibly your friends) to decide where to traverse next.

Hopefully, this guide gives you an insight into what to expect when you begin your journey in Baldur’s Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3 transports players to the Forgotten Realms, a highly popular Dungeons and Dragons setting that debuted in 1987 - specifically in the continent of Faerun.

Those familiar with the Forgotten Realms setting will likely be aware of some key locations; for instance, the Underdark – an underground labyrinth that was recently featured in the blockbuster film, Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

The map size can be difficult to describe as players continue to explore Larian Studios' RPG epic, but the world is connected similarly to games such as Dark Souls, where unique locations are accessible by entering caves and dungeons.

The world itself is referred to as the Wilderness, a large map that grants players access to dozens of locations in Baldur's Gate 3. Through the Wilderness, you will stumble across various settlements, such as the Emerald Grove, an early-game location, and bespoke ruins that provide players with further mysteries to uncover.

With that in mind, Baldur's Gate 3 is separated into various sub-areas or zones. In the game's opening act, you can expect to explore areas such as the Underdark, a Goblin Camp, the Sunlit Wetlands, and more. Acts II and III add more areas for you to explore, with each new location offering a multitude of quests, items, NPCs, and in usual Dungeons and Dragons fashion, intricate combat encounters.
