Finding the Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3 can take up a lot of time, with it being a major quest throughout much of the first two acts of the game, but the answer lies within the Gauntlet of Shar.

Baldur's Gate 3 has a number of quests that will run for dozens of hours as you slowly piece together clues and find other quests that intersect with them. The objective to find the Nightsong is one of these, with it being a big part of Shadowheart's storyline in the game, and a key moment in Act 2's main story.

You'll be led through the Gauntlet of Shar as part of the quest, which is filled with various puzzles, traps to disarm, and combat areas like the Silent Library. So, if you need to know how to find the Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3, read on for our Gauntlet of Shar walkthrough, which shows you exactly where to go.

SPOILER WARNING Spoilers for Act 2 of Baldur's Gate 3 and the Shadowheart storyline.

Where is the Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3?

In Baldur's Gate 3, the Nightsong is located in a plane called the Shadowfell, which can be found by completing the Gauntlet of Shar found during the game's second act.

This means if you are still trying to complete the 'Find the Nightsong' quest in the first act, don't worry about missing it. Just follow the main story into the second act, and then you can begin taking the steps to actually track it down.

Once you begin Act 2 and enter the Shadow-cursed lands, you'll want to make your way to the north-west part of the region, where you can find a cave entrance that leads into the Thorm Mausoleum

There's a simple puzzle in here you'll need to solve before you can venture further, requiring you to press the murals in the following order: Moonrise Towers, Grief, and General.

A secret door will then open, leading to a lift that takes you down into the Gauntlet of Shar, so you can finally find the Baldur's Gate 3 Nightsong.

We also recommend bringing along Shadowheart for this section of the game, as it's a key part of her questline and personal story.

Once you get down into the Baldur's Gate 3 Gauntlet of Shar, you'll be presented with a statue in the middle of a room, and a magically sealed door on the opposite side.

You can either skip this puzzle by going through the door on the left and going through the small Underdark area, or by flipping the levers in the four corner rooms in the area, and then pressing the Umbral Gem in the middle to open the main door.

Silent Library

Your next stop on the quest for the Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3 should be the Silent Library

After making your way through the door and fighting some enemies, head down the stairs to the left, then down another stairs to the right to reach a different level of the Gauntlet. You will find a doorway with a massive white forcefield over the front.

Inside the BG3 Silent Library, you'll be met with a Silence status, meaning no one can cast verbal spells. Making it more difficult, there are multiple enemies inside, but if you defeat the Silent Librarian in the middle, you'll be able to use spells and get rid of the other enemies.

After this, search the bookshelves for 'Teachings of Loss: The Nightsinger' and place the book on the pedestal behind the gate to open the door.

Inside, you can grab the Spear of Night, a magical weapon Shadowheart will require to pass the Gauntlet. That's the Silent Library over and finished.

Faith-Leap Trial

After the Silent Library, you'll need to head out the door and take a left to start the trials.

The first of the three trails for passing the Gauntlet of Shar is the Faith-Leap Trial, which requires players to walk an invisible pathway to the end to grab an Umbral Gem. The path can be found on the floor in front of the mural just before entering, so follow that exactly.

The Self-Same Trial

The second trial can be found up the stairs after coming out of the first one, and is the Self-Same Trial, which requires the party to fight exact copies of themselves

The catch here is that your party isn't supposed to deal damage to other copies that aren't themselves, otherwise, you'll incur a debuff to your stats. It's worth just attacking whoever for this, and performing a Long Rest afterwards to get rid of the effects.

The final character you kill will drop an Umbral Gem and allow you to finish the second trial.

After exiting the previous trial, head to the door on the right and find the Soft-Step Trial

This is a test of stealth, and requires the player to sneak through a maze patrolled by guards and grab the Umbral Gem. The easiest way here is to stick to the very right side and use a Rogue character like Astarion.

Yurgir

After passing all three trials and grabbing the Umbral Gems, you'll need to collect the final gem from a devil called Yurgir, who has taken residence inside the Gauntlet of Shar.

He can be found on the very opposite side of where the trials are located, so just walk across the platform in the middle and eventually, you'll come across a Displacer beast that lures you into the room with Yurgir.

To get the Umbral Gem, you can either make a deal with Durgir and follow his quest, or defeat him in combat and take it off his corpse. Be warned this is a difficult fight, and he will ambush you if you follow the Displacer, so we recommend sneaking around the opposite side and fighting the Displacer beast first away from the enemies.

After you have all the Umbral Gems, return to the top of the Gauntlet of Shar, in front of the giant statue of Shar, and use the elevator platform here.

You'll be taken to a new location below, where you can place all the Umbral Gems on a pedestal. This opens a door leading into a room with a pool of water.

Interacting with this pool of water will take you to the Shadowfell, so you can find the Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3 and complete a big part of Shadowheart's questline.

Be warned that entering the Shadowfell will advance the game and will stop you from being able to travel to many of the previous areas.

That's all for our breakdown of how to find the Nightsong in Baldur's Gate 3, and now you know the full process of completing the Gauntlet of Shar.
