Each season of Apex Legends introduces a brand-new playable character, and Catalyst is one of them. As Season 15: Eclipse approaches, all signs point toward Catalyst as the next entrant into the Apex Games. So, that begs the question, what do we know about the lore and abilities of Apex Legends' Catalyst?

Catalyst's abilities revolve around ferrofluid, a magnetic liquid. Catalyst can manipulate ferrofluid to her will, creating barriers, platforms, and pillars. Below is a list of Catalyst's rumoured abilities:

Passive: Reinforce

Standing near your ferrofluid structures, doors, and other Legends' placeables will strengthen their integrity and allow them to take significantly more damage.

Tactical: Resin Shot

On impact, the shot creates a ramp of hardened ferrofluid that can be extended with more shots. Can also be used to create platforms on walls. (Max three structures)

Ultimate: Ferro Wall

Ferrofluid rises up from below, pushing you upwards while creating a tall solid column under you.

  • Catalyst's ability to create structures out of thin air makes her a perfect pairing for Fortnite fans.

What do we know about the lore for Catalyst in Apex Legends?

While firm details regarding Catalyst's background still evade us, there is a breadcrumb trail of clues we can follow to get an idea of what this Season 15 legend is all about.

In the game files, Catalyst is codenamed "The Witch". But that's not all - the Season 15 Battle Pass is codenamed "Magic Goth", further evidence to indicate that Catalyst rocks an aesthetic reminiscent of a dark sorceress.

Diving deeper, browsing through the new Apex Legends tarot cards that leaked, one card, in particular, is labelled "The High Priestess" and features what is thought to be Catalyst. Moreover, a leaked Holospray depicts another image of Catalyst, albeit in a very low resolution.

So, we have an idea of what Catalyst might look like, but who is Catalyst? The answer to that question remains a mystery. Those familiar with the in-game Apex Legends comics suspect that Catalyst is Subject 0, a young woman who fears Wraith, as Wraith performed experiments on Subject 0. Another theory is that Catalyst is Mila, Crypto's sister. Originally presumed dead, Mila has played a substantial role in Apex Legends lore as of late and sports a goth aesthetic herself.

In the end, outside of her abilities and her general look, everything we know about Catalyst up to this point is pure speculation. While these rumours aren't baseless, Respawn Entertainment has yet to confirm Catalyst, so everything about this speculative legend is subject to change.

Expect Catalyst to officially show her face at some point closer to the launch of Apex Legends Season 15: Eclipse.
