While we prepare to lay Warzone to rest as its predecessor's rebellious usurp is pending, fans have already begun pressing F to pay respects to one aspect of the game that has already died... snipers.

The sniper class was once the most utilised set of weapons in the game, especially when Call of Duty: Vanguard was in its prime and war was waged between the hard-hitting HDR and the quick-fire Kar98k.

However, in the current meta, snipers have been nerfed into the ground. When we say into the ground, we mean six-feet under and buried in a coffin.

Snipers Are Officially Dead In Warzone

Since weapons such as the Kar98k and the AX-50 were heavily nerfed to be a two-shot kill from more than spitting distance, snipers have been pretty much useless on Caldera, Fortune's Keep, and Rebirth Island.

With no apparent fixes in the works either, and only one season left of Warzone's suspected lifetime, fans are now saying goodbye to snipers forever. One fan posted a clip of the snipers' death, getting three consecutive headshots on a team without getting a single down (cracking armour on all three) - which would have been a squad wipe this time last year.

Warzone Fans Mourn Snipers

"What a f*****g disgrace," said one fan in the Reddit thread. Another added, "MW has marksman rifles that are up to 7 shots to kill. Some even hit limbs for damage in the 20s."

Only the HDR and ZRG can down a player with a single headshot in the current state of Warzone, although the two snipers in question are the slowest of the bunch and require you to adopt a very, very, camper-like approach to your gameplay.

Other fans opted to raise a toast to snipers and collectively discuss their memories. "I miss the using the HDR with the pre nerf thermal scope lol," said one user, thinking back to the first-ever sniper meta.

"I miss when the game was like this," added another fan, with messages such as "The HDR was a thing of beauty back in the day", "Ahhhh the good ol' days of quarantine", and "Back when sniping meant something, to be honest," echoed the thoughts of most reminiscent players. Sniping will surely take a reconsidered approach in Warzone 2 - given that the Intervention is coming in Modern Warfare 2 - but who knows if it will ever be as good as back in March 2020?
