Vanguard Teases Classic World At War And MW3 Maps
Call of Duty has a habit of rehashing its old maps for modern games. It’s no surprise that the shooter series does - the FPS franchise has an enduring legacy of games that defined an era of gaming, and continues to define the modern interpretation of its genre.
The likes of Terminal, Rust, and Nuketown are some of the most iconic locations in gaming, let alone first-person shooters, so we can’t blame CoD for coming back time and time again to reproduce their experiences. It looks like Vanguard won’t be deferring from tried and tested tropes of bringing classics back.
Vanguard Leak Hints At Returning World At War Maps
As reported by VGC, the titles of the maps for Call of Duty: Vanguard have been datamined to reveal that some maps from World At War could be on their way to Vanguard. Map titles will be familiar to those playing the game’s beta, as they have already appeared in-game. Still, it's worth taking this report with a pinch of salt.
As a part of the leak, some familiar names have appeared - Castle, Oasis, Dome and Sub Pen. You might recognise these as a long-term fan of the franchise, as Castle, Dome, and Sub Pen are maps that made their debut in World at War.
Oasis is also a map from Modern Warfare 3, so perhaps we could be seeing a wartorn version of the locale in Vanguard?
It remains to be seen if these names are mere development stand-ins, but here's hoping the fan-favourites make a bold return.
What Are The Other Leaked Vanguard Maps Called?
These are the leaked titles for the upcoming Vanguard maps - and again, these could yet be false:
- Berlin
- Bastion
- Bocage
- Casablanca
- Castle
- War of the Dead (the leaked Zombies title)
- Das Haus
- Demyansk
- Dome
- Desert Siege
- Factory
- Gavutu
- Hotel Royale
- Numa
- Numa-Numa
- Oasis
- Paradise
- Red Star
- Shipment
- Sub Pen
- Tuscan
There are also the four Champion’s Hill maps we’ve seen so far:
- Airstrip
- Train Yard
- Courtyard
- Market
The addition of old maps to Vanguard wouldn’t be surprising, but it’s still nice to see that they’ve potentially elected to draw from another of the franchise’s WWII titles for its returning classics. Bring on Vanguard and we’ll see you in the Castle.
