The second season of The Last of Us is officially in the works now that the SAG-AFTRA strike has finally met a happy conclusion, with the next run of episodes poised to adapt the first part of 2020's divisive The Last of Us Part II.

Given that Naughty Dog is gearing up to release a remastered edition of Part II, it's safe to say that the groundwork is being laid to bring Abby Anderson to life in the second instance of the HBO series.

A lot of conversation has swirled around the potential of introducing the narrative of TLOU Part II, especially around who will star alongside Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Abby - and it looks like rumours are pointing towards a familiar face.

Kaitlyn Dever is rumoured to play Abby in TLOU Season 2

Though she was fantastic as Ellie many times over, and even apparently read for the role before Bella Ramsey eventually took the star billing, it's rumoured that Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Unbelievable) will be playing Abby in the upcoming second season of The Last Of Us after weeks of rumours pointing to a casting.

The character stands as one that fans are nervous about when it comes to the live-action version of the story. Abby's actions in the second game remain some of the most talked-about character moments in gaming history, while Twitter is still rife with complaints about how The Last Of Us Part II dealt with her story. Her appearance in the show is bound to ruffle some feathers.

It's fascinating that Dever is rumoured to appear after she was once tipped to take the role of Ellie, even though many claimed she was probably too old for the role by the time the show appeared - but it's more interesting still that it wouldn't be her first appearance in a PlayStation production.

Depending on PlayStation's plans for an extended universe (please give it a rest, we just want good movies in their own rights), Dever's rumoured appearance in The Last of Us Season 2 could be a spanner in the works, as she has already appeared with a PlayStation property before.

Dever appeared in Uncharted as Cassie Drake, getting mere minutes of screen time right at the end of Uncharted 4. Still, it would make for a fascinating connection to the world of video games compared to PlayStation's live-action appearances.

This wouldn't be The Last of Us' only connection to Uncharted, with showrunner Craig Mazin confirming the lighter used by Tess (Anna Torv) in episode 2 was a replica of the one used by Sam Drake in Uncharted 4. See, now you have us thinking whether a HBO Uncharted would've done better than the Tom Holland movie.
