Tears of the Kingdom kills fan-favourite Twilight Princess character
Nintendo can't help but put the tears in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, as the fantasy adventure seems to keep killing its characters off. This time, it looks like a fan-favourite from 2005's Twilight Princess has been sent to that Hyrule Castle in the sky.
We've already put up missing posters for Breath of the Wild's loyal Kass, and if you're looking closely, you'll find the Zora have created a tribute to the beloved Mipha on Ploymus Mountain. Now, it looks like those bloodthirsty devs have killed off the fan-favourite Wolf Link between games.
Is Wolf Link in Tears of the Kingdom?
In Twilight Princess, Wolf Link was a transformed version of our Hylian hero. This Divine Beast could tear around the game and make light work of enemies with his ferocious teeth. As a way to link Twilight Princess HD to modern Zelda games, Wolf Link also appeared in 2017's Breath of the Wild.
If you attached either the Wolf Link or Midna amiibos you could summon Wolf Link into the game. It was similar to how using the Smash Bros. or Twilight Princess Link amiibos could bring Epona to your side, but arguably, having a wolf to attack foes was a much better perk.
As amiibos are still a part of Tears of the Kingdom's mechanics (we're not sure who still uses them), players expected Wolf Link to spawn into this supersized Hyrule. Sadly, when you boot up the Wolf Link amiibo, you're simply gifted a stack of meat instead of a snarling beast.
Tears of the Kingdom fans react to Wolf Link's 'death'
Suddenly going from one of the best amiibos to one of the worst, it hardly seems worth attaching Wolf Link to your playthrough. The likes of the 8-Bit Link and Toon Link can drop unique outfits, but with Wolf Link, we're given a generic stack of meat.
On Twitter, players took this to mean Wolf Link has been killed between games. It's pure fan fiction, but we're taking it as headcannon. Someone wrote, "This is all you get from the Wolf Link amiibo, nooooo he's dead!" Someone else referred to the amiibo's abilities as the biggest downgrade ever.
Another added, "The lifespan of an average male wolf is 16 years and link turned into a wolf in 2006 so by 2017 botw he was 11 but now in 2023 he would have been 17 in totk unfortunately he's DEAD!! that meat is all that's left of him so sad."
Someone concluded that while it's disappointing, it's because warping or gliding in Breath of the Wild meant you had to keep scanning the amiibo. With Tears being a lot bigger, most of us aren't going around on foot. First, you can't pet the dog, and now they've killed Wolf Link... someone get PETA on the Ocarina.
