Though we'd made jokes about it for years before he finally arrived, it was still a shock when Peter Griffin showed up in Fortnite. It wasn't expected that Family Guy would be a particularly expensive license compared to the likes of Superman and Goku, but the logistics seem tough for such a family-oriented show.

Then again, with John Wick and the Xenomorph from Alien, there's clearly a certain amount of forgiveness in the adult department. Either way, Griffin is in - but Seth MacFarlane has a theory as to why Epic Games had to make him absolutely shredded.

Seth MacFarlane -  Fortnite "couldn’t afford" Peter Griffin’s build

On the red carpet for his new Ted series, Family Guy creator and voice of Peter Griffin Seth MacFarlane has shared his experience of bringing the character to Fortnite. He has a pretty good theory as to why Epic Games made this version of the Family Guy patriarch hit the gym.

"He’s very muscular in there, right?" he asks the interviewer at IGN. "I was told they didn’t have the budget to create his actual body, so they had to like, stick his head on a… so it was like that TV Guide cover from the 90s where they put Oprah’s head on Ann-Margret’s body. Anybody remember that?"

The reference might be a bit dated for the current playerbase of Fortnite, but it's pretty accurate that Peter's in-game body doesn’t exactly look like his appearance in the show. We hear that many polygons are pretty expensive.

Seth MacFarlane needed Fortnite explained to him

Though Fortnite is something of a cultural cornerstone at this point, it's telling of the all-encompassing nature of being in the gaming community because even though we expected that everyone knew what Fortnite was, Seth MacFarlane admits that he needed the game explained to him.

"I had to have somebody explain to me what the f**k Fortnite is,” he says. "And then I said, ‘well, that sounds kinda cool! Yeah, why not, let’s do it!’ That’s what a lot of my career is, somebody explaining to me ‘how about this,’ and they explain it to me, and I’m like ‘so that sounds kinda - kinda badass!'"

He might be jacked, but the appearance of Peter Griffin in Fortnite felt like prophecy fulfilment, so it's good that the creator of Family Guy is at least on board. Even if he doesn't fully understand what the project actually is.
