The transformation of Fortnite from a battle royale game into a gaming platform that just so happens to feature a battle royale game is in full force, and it’s truly maddening to watch on as the Epic Games masterwork grows even more than ever expected.

Fortnite is a beast in its own league, but now, with Fortnite Festival, Rocket Racing and LEGO Fortnite, it has become far more than we ever though it could. The possibilities for the title are now truly endless, although it might have ended another possibility in the process.

Now that Fortnite is calling all of the shots with Harmonix as a part of the Epic Games family, it has been revealed that DLC production for Rock Band 4 will cease.

It's well known that Harmonix was a crucial part of helping develop the game's Fortnite Festival mode, with it basically being Rock Band. But, there were still questions to be answered about the game itself. And now, thanks to product manager Daniel Sussman, it looks like they've found a conclusion.

"After over 8 years of weekly Rock Band 4 DLC releases, we’re here to let you know that January 25 will be the last DLC release of the RB4 era," Sussman says in a blog post. "All other live services will continue as normal, including Rivals seasons, online play, and everything else." Well, there it goes.

Harmonix is optimistic about Fortnite Festival

Though the team gives a teary goodbye to the support of Rock Band 4, they seem incredibly excited to see fans of the classic rhythm series watch on and get involved with their work on Fortnite Festival.

"Looking ahead, the Harmonix team has been hard at work over the last two years to develop Fortnite Festival, which brings rhythm action gaming (and more) to the Fortnite ecosystem. It’s free to play, we have a rotating selection of songs that you can play (for free) anytime."

"If you are a fan of the rhythm game category, Fortnite Festival is the place to be; and with support for RB4 instruments coming, this is not the time to hang up your guitars just yet…"

The future of Rock Band has bizarrely found a home in Fortnite - and it's a good home at that. We can finally shred as Fishstick. It's what we’ve always wanted.
