Resident Evil Village Has Leaked Early

It looks like Capcom is opening the gates to Castle Dimitrescu early, with Resident Evil Village players already getting their hands on a copy of the game. While the eighth main entry in the long-shuffling zombie franchise is supposedly clawing its way into our lives on May 7, a lucky few are heading to this realm of madmen and monsters early. Lady Dimitrescu will see you now.

This time, we pick up the story of Ethan Winters in the aftermath of 2017's Resident Evil 7. Although Winters has left the horrors of the Baker Ranch behind him, he's drawn back into this murky world by the death of his wife, Mia. Also in the mix, fan-favourite Chris Redfield is back in action with a dark twist - seemingly responsible for the death of Mia. If that wasn't enough, there's the towering temptress Lady Dimitrescu. This giant vampire villainess is all anyone has been talking about since the game was first announced last year.

How has Resident Evil Village leaked early?

There were whispers that some copies of Village had shipped early in Australia, but now, there's actual evidence that the game is landing on your doorstep early. Posting on Twitter, @Kaiser499 told us to look out for spoilers now the title has started releasing. It's unclear how the user nabbed Village before general release, however, it's not that unusual to see games ship early from some retailers. We know the early leak comes from Australia thanks to the physical copy in the poster's hands boasting an R18+ rating.

It doesn't look like @Kaiser499 is alone in getting Resident Evil Village early, but at the time of writing, we don't know which outlets are sending out their copies ahead of general release. Importantly, the OP is right about avoiding spoilers. As more gamers get their game early, they're sure to start posting about it online. Considering we know so little about the main story of Village, the various plot points are sure to be a popular topic for spoiler-hungry horror hounds.

Will more players get Resident Evil Village early?

We've done some sleuthing and can't find evidence that others have gotten early access to Village. Still, the idea of a broken street date two full weeks ahead of Village's proposed release is a big one. If you weren't already chomping at the bit, Capcom has been rolling out a convoluted release window for two demos. During a period of just eight hours, PlayStation players could get access to 30 minutes of gameplay in either the village or castle sections of the game. Although most of pre-release has focussed on Castle Dimitrescu, we need to remember it's just one small section of a much larger game.

As for spoilers, expect them to start flowing now copies are out there in the wild. Despite Village having a whole host of new enemies like werewolves and vampires, it'll be interesting to see how the installment connects to the wider Resi-verse. Just like the end of RE7 heralded the return of Chris Redfield and the birth of Blue Umbrella, we're guessing some more ghosts of the past will rear their heads this time around. Come on, where's Ada Wong at? There are just weeks until Resident Evil Village gets its full release, but if you're one of the lucky few to get the game early, please don't spoil it for the rest of us.
