Leon S. Kennedy is taking some time away from the Racoon City Police Department and shooting up zombies in Resident Evil for a trip into the world of Rainbow 6. While Leon has been a staple of the video game scene since his introduction in 1998's Resident Evil 2, he's branched out into a completely different franchise.

2021 is a massive one for Resident Evil, with it marking 25 years since Capcom released the first game. Alongside the release of Resident Evil Village and the upcoming drop of RE:Verse, there's the previously teased Rainbow Six crossover. While we already knew Zofia would be getting a makeover to look like Jill Valentine, Leon is the latest Resi favourite to make the leap. While it might make more sense for Jill's partner in crime, Chris Redfield, to join R6, Leon is sure to be a hit.

What is the Rainbow 6 and Resident Evil crossover?

Noted R6 leaker killahtree shared the images of the Leon skin. He'll apparently be an operator skin for Lion. The Zofia/Jill skin was 1800 R6 credits, but at the time of writing, we don't know how much Leon will cost. Ubisoft previously promised more Resident Evil content would be coming to Rainbow Six, but stopped short of confirming who or what it would be. It's unclear whether Leon will be the last of the crossovers, but if not, the likes of Chris and Claire Redfield or Ada Wong would be popular additions to the tactical shooter.

Ubisoft hasn't officially confirmed the Leon skin, however, it looks pretty likely this is the real deal. As you can see, it's pretty obvious it's Leon S. Kennedy - even without an R.C.P.D. vest. We don't know whether it'll be just a simple reskin or whether there will be more content like the Dead By Daylight and Resident Evil crossover.

What does the Rainbow 6 and Resident Evil crossover mean?

Interestingly, some think the operator skin is our biggest hint yet that a next-gen remake of Resident Evil 4 is on the way. The 2005 game is largely held as the best in the series, and although it's received numerous ports from its original home on the GameCube, we're yet to see it on modern systems. Following in the footsteps of 2019's Resident Evil 2 and last year's Resident Evil 3: Nemesis remake, fans are ravenous for a Resident Evil 4 remake.

Leon is the protagonist of the survival horror game, and although some have debunked the idea of a RE4 remake thanks to the Resident Evil 4 VR port, there are still those holding out hope for a full remaster. Capcom is celebrating in style in 2021, so we'd be surprised if we aren't taking on Ramon Salazar in HD before the year is out. There's no release date for the Leon skin, but he could be well-timed for a rerelease of RE4. While we continue to wait, at least we know you'll be able to dress to impress as Leon S. Kennedy in Rainbow Six Siege
