It's time to roll out the red carpet as Sony has finally revealed how much its next generation of consoles will cost you. Safe to say, it's a pretty penny. As Microsoft and Sony go head-to-head in the war of the next-gen consoles, the disc and digital-only models of the PlayStation 5 are preparing to usher in a new chapter. In the words of Scar from The Lion King, "A shiny new era is tiptoeing nearer".

With Microsoft pulling back the curtain on the pint-sized Xbox Series S and its £249 price tag, it didn't take Sony long to make its first marketing move and confirms the PS5 will be barging into the market at £449 for the standard version and £359.99 for digital-only.

There was a lot of hype surrounding September 9 because it was the 25th anniversary of the original PlayStation's launch, but instead of celebrating all things PS5, Sony focussed on PSVR games. Thankfully, there wasn't long to wait thanks to an all-star reveal of what's coming next.

Following the success of the PlayStation 4 becoming one of the best-selling consoles of all time, there are high hopes for the PS5 to perform. There's already a plethora of titles that have gamers bouncing off the walls with excitement. Among the big hitters are Ratchet & Clank: Rift ApartSpider-Man: Miles Morales, and Horizon Forbidden West. Alongside these, you've got multiplatform games like Resident Evil VillageAssassin's Creed Valhalla, and Cyberpunk 2077 that are sure to run smoothly on the PS5.

Although there will still be those who compare the PS5 to a wi-fi router, we don't imagine Sony is too fussed.  With so many of us chomping at the bit to get under the hood of the PS5, we suggest you get your orders in early.

As the standard and digital-only PS5 gallop toward their November 12 release date (for US, Japan, Canada, Australia, Mew Zealand and South Korea), or November 19 if you’re the rest of the world, the only decision you have to make now is which one you're going for.
