Xbox Series S Price Revealed As £249
After what seems like an eternity of waiting, the battle of the next-gen consoles is coming to a head. The tech industry has been on tenterhooks ahead of the big reveal of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series, and it looks like Microsoft has made the first move. Now, we've finally got a look at the Xbox Series S and know exactly how much it will cost you.
Various leaks started to trickle through that listed the Xbox Series X at $499, but keen to get the drop on the competition, Microsoft officially listed the smaller Xbox Series S price as $299 (£249/€299). It's much lower than we'd expected, showing how Microsoft is trying to get the edge over Sony and the astronomically high rumoured price tag for the digital and disc versions of the PS5.

The pint-sized Series S may be 60% smaller than the Series X (meaning it'll fit in your TV cabinet a little better), but there's still plenty going on under the hood. A full teaser trailer confirmed the Xbox Series S has some impressive specs that will support 120FPS at 1440p, a 4K upscaling for games, 4K media playback, support for DirectX raytracing, and a custom NVME 512GB SSD.
Microsoft has called the Xbox Series S its "smallest Xbox ever", which had been shown off in its marketing material. Isn't it adorable? The small stature means there's no disc drive in the Xbox Series S, which is unsurprising considering the industry looks to be shifting toward a digital-only model.
Both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series X are also set to be available as part of a $25/$35 per month Xbox All Access plan that will offer a financing option for those who don't want to stump up the whole cost in one go. Microsoft has said it can't wait to "share more soon", teasing that there's more on the way.
Whispers of the Xbox Series S had been rumoured long before its official reveal, with insiders claiming it was planned for a huge E3 showcase before COVID-19 scuppered those plans. The Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S are heading for a November 10 drop, meaning we're finally ushering in a new era of gaming after the runaway success of the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Oh well, it's out with the old and in with the new.
