Petition For EA To Remake Classic LOTR And Harry Potter Games Hits 10k Signatures
The immersive worlds of the magical kingdoms and Middle Earth have enthralled and encapsulated movie lovers and gamers for decades. Since the launch of Lord of the Rings Vol. II: The Two Towers by Electronic Arts back in 1990, the publishers have been taking both on J.R.R Tolkien and JK Rowling's universes and adapting them into game form, continuing the adventure of Harry Potter and Frodo Baggins.
Starting in the early 2000s, EA and Warner Bros. collaborated to bring a large quantity of Harry Potter and Lords of the Rings game titles to fruition, signing a deal which meant that the instalments cannot be republished by other companies. With the licences now expired, the previous games cannot be published at all, leaving a gaping hole in the gaming-sphere of both fan bases.
Now, over 10,000 people have signed a petition to "Re-license The Lord of the Rings & Harry Potter games made by EA and Vivendi" in a bid to have the popular classics republished or even remastered.
The full list of titles included in this petition include:
- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001 & 2003)
- The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
- The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003)
- Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup (2003)
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
- The Lord of the Rings: The Third Age (2004)
- The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth (2004)
- The Lord of the Rings: Tactics (2005)
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
- The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle Earth II (2006)
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
- The Lord of the Rings: Conquest (2009)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011)
Should the petition be successful, the publishers would be unearthing over a decade worth of games that will certainly pack a fizzing whizzbert filled with nostalgia.
Both sets of fans do have other titles to look forward to as well. Hogwarts: Legacy is set to spill a butterbeer or two in 2022, whilst The Lord of the Rings: Gollum will be coming in the same year. Oh so precious.
