The return of Overwatch has been a long time coming.

The game was announced back in 2019, and fans have been offered very little in the way of information about the game. A couple of cinematic peeks and a slim look into the inner workings of the sequel haven't gone all that far, especially as we're now into 2022 without so much as a release date. The game was revealed much too soon in development, and now fans are left in the lurch.

However, it might not be all that long before we have our first opportunity to actually try the game.

Overwatch 2 Beta Could Be Coming Soon

After years of waiting, an Overwatch 2 beta could finally be around the corner.

A lot of fans have noticed that a new dev version of Overwatch was uploaded to Battle.net by Blizzard, titled 'designation 2.0'. This has given the impression that this new version of Overwatch is actually its sequel, and uploading to Battle.net implies that some playtesting alongside the launcher is taking place at the very least. Plus, if we're being optimistic, it means that a beta (likely to be closed - sorry) could well be coming into effect very soon.

Thankfully this would indicate that development is quite far along, and if a launching beta is anything to go by, we could be seeing a full release date reveal in the coming months.

Though this is all unverified, it's still an incredibly exciting suggestion, and the thought that some people could very soon actually be playing Overwatch 2 is one we've wanted to have for some time.

But, there's another hint that could suggest that a beta is coming very soon, too.

Overwatch League Could Use Beta Build Of Overwatch 2

In September last year, Blizzard confirmed that esports professionals would be using an early build of Overwatch 2 to compete in Overwatch League 2022, which is currently slated to begin in April. It adds more credence to the idea that builds are getting ready for actual players, and it suggests even further that the game could be coming soon.

This is incredibly exciting, and for the dedicated among Overwatch's ongoing playerbase, it's been an absurdly long time coming. Thank goodness we have something new to latch onto.
