It looks Like Overwatch 2 Is Coming To Mobile

It looks Like Overwatch 2 Is Coming To Mobile
Blizzard

The life cycle of Overwatch 2 has been, frankly, pretty exhausting. It feels very much like a game we'll end up waiting forever for, with its reveal trailer offering no insight to when we'll actually get to play... and that was back in 2019.

In 2022, we're no closer to a release window reveal, and fan excitement has stagnated very quickly indeed. With continued knock-on effects from the grim Activision Blizzard lawsuit threatening the game's very existence, there's little hope for the title, especially when it looks as similar to the original game as it does.

But, a leak has suggested that the long-awaited title could well be getting a new platform - and it might not be the one you might expect.

Could Overwatch 2 Be Coming To Mobile?

Rumours are circulating on Twitter that Overwatch 2 could be headed into uncharted waters and give mobile players a chance to get in on the action. An artist on Twitter, Bixels, has suggested that as the designs for the game's characters have been drastically simplified, which could mean Overwatch 2 is coming to mobile.

The design downgrade has been displayed in a few screenshots of Torbjorn's weapons, and the original poster suggests that this could be deliberate, so a drastic graphical downgrade for mobile users isn't so easily noticed.

Plus, as was the case with the first Overwatch game, this design forward-planning seems to imply that the game could also be coming to the Nintendo Switch. Still, a lot of players expected it to prioritise next-gen consoles.

What Do We Know About Overwatch 2?

So far, even though its reveal is now so far behind us, not an awful lot is known about Overwatch 2. It'll introduce some new game modes, bring long-awaited character Sojourn to the battle, and shift the meta of the game by reducing the number of tanks allowed on one team from two to one - but that's about it.

So much is under wraps about Overwatch 2, to such a degree that fans don't expect anyone to actually seek out the game, especially if they already own the first game.

Only time will tell if the game will actually perform well, but until then, we'll just have to wonder. At least if Overwatch 2 comes to mobile, it'll have something over the original - which frankly, is desperately needed.
