Treyarch's rotting roadmap just added another stop for Call of Duty as the latest news from that shooting showstopper just confirmed a brand new Cold War Black Ops Zombies map will be coming in Season 2. Thanks to a last-minute delay, we haven't even got Season 1 of 2020's Cold War content, but away from a ranking reset, three new Operators, and integration of the record-breaking Call of Duty: Warzone, this is just the start of an ongoing journey for players.

While Black Ops Cold War was already tipped to be the biggest CoD game to date, we doubt Activision could've anticipated success. Aside from the latest chapter being the best-selling game of November, the return of the fan-favourite Zombies has been grabbing headlines. Although the story seemed to come to an end with the lacklustre Black Ops 4, the introduction of the new "Dark Aether" storyline has breathed new life into this rotting corpse.

Despite there being a lot of love for Cold War Zombies, there have been complaints Treyarch has been slow on the uptake, with gripes that we've only got "Die Maschine" to play on. Well, all that could be about to change thanks to a new Black Ops Cold War Zombies map.

New Black Ops Cold War Zombies Map: What is it?

During a special Season 1 broadcast (shared via @ModernWarzone), John Rafacz, Director of Communications at Treyarch asked, "Is there anything you want to tease about Season Two?". Kevin Drew, Lead Systems Designer on Black Ops Cold War Zombies, excitedly responded, "So recently, we have added additional intel into 'Die Maschine' for players to discover. You might find a hint of what's to come at the start of Season Two. We will be bringing you a brand new map...".

While Drew wasn't willing to give anything else away, this bombshell revelation is sure to see players diving back into "Die Maschine" in droves. There's no further information on what we can expect, however, let's remember those recent leaks. Earlier this month, TheGamingRevolution claimed Zombies would be heading to Vietnam in the near future.

The idea is that the mysterious "Firebaze Z" map that was unearthed before Cold War's release will be a return to the OG Black Ops' Khe Sanh Combat Base. Elsewhere, wild speculation suggests everything from a survival version of "Nacht Der Untoten" to the return of the fan-favourite cinema-based "Kino Der Toten".  Either way, it's only a matter of time until "Die Maschine" is finally joined by a new locale

New Black Ops Cold War Zombies Map: When will it be released?

Despite the fact Season 1 isn't even out yet, many of us will now be looking ahead to Season 2. Treyarch hasn't locked in a release date, however, Season 2 is expected to drop in February - around two months after the first DLC. The proposed life cycles mean we could see Season 3 drop in April/May - hopefully bringing a third map to this undead debacle.

Unless developers are hiding something major, it doesn't look like Season 1 will be getting a new Zombies map. As a (sort of) compromise, Zombies is getting a slight remodel with the festive Jingle Hells LTM. As well as this, a Cranked LTM will also be added to Zombies as part of a mid-season update.

Not everyone was impressed. One disgruntled gamer wrote, "So multiplayer gets new maps + weapons and for zombies... dogs get antlers and a sh*tty gamemode literally nobody asked for. Meanwhile there are 2 extra maps that we know we're supposed to come at launch and they still haven’t been released yet".

For those hoping Treyarch would be giving us the Christmas gift of a new map, some minor Zombies updates will be putting the developer on the naughty list. At least we know a new Zombies map is out there somewhere and crawling toward us when Season 2 eventually drops.
