Modern Warfare 2 became the best-selling Call of Duty of all time in its launch weekend, topping MW3's records from back in 2011. Yet, some fans are rather displeased at a feature that Activision soon banned, and they are now wanting refunds.
The Call of Duty developers lapped up a whopping $800 million in sales over the opening weekend of Modern Warfare 2, but they've soon taken steps to squeeze even more cash out of CoD-heavy families.
Never one to care too much about the wallets of parents, Activision has now decided to turn off the Family Sharing feature on Steam, which is forcing households to splash out more cash on multiple editions of Modern Warfare 2 or bequeath the rage of kids who already tasted what the game has to offer.
Activision Remove Modern Warfare 2 Family Share Option on Steam
Sharing games has recently become quite a popular feature on both consoles and PC, with the systems allowing families to buy one copy of a game and have multiple siblings share the experience on their respective consoles. Game Sharing on console and Family Sharing on Steam might have been taken advantage of by duos of friends saving cash too, but now this choice is being scrapped on PC by Activision.
According to a new Steam update, Activision launched Modern Warfare 2 with the ability to Family Share across PCs, but three days after, the developers disabled it.
This means that any households taking advantage of the sharing option, which is expected during this worldwide economic crisis, will be forced to halt their progress over the first three days and save up even more cash.
Fans Furious At MW2 Family Sharing Removal
"I feel like this was done on purpose. You already put in two hours of gameplay so now you can't get a refund," one aggrieved fan said on Reddit. "I would have bought it on console instead and the family would have had fun," they added.
"I figured letting my dad play campaign on his steam deck and letting me family share it so I could play on my account would actually be a good idea. Silly me I suppose," said another.
PC fans of Call of Duty have had quite a few benefits in-game throughout the last two years, but this change appears to have driven some players away from the computer and back to console, in order to save $70 or more.
