Call of Duty is now split down two sides, with a chasm having opened between multiplayer and Warzone. Truth be told, there's now a gulf of differences between the usual tactical shooter and the battle royale to a point where they're hardly comparable anymore.
Yet some players are still trying to widen the bridge between both camps, as a recent podcast has started a war.
"Warzone more skilful than the CDL" is the hypothesis, and the Call of Duty community has erupted into a massive debate.
Warzone fans claim it is 'way more skilful' than multiplayer (CDL)
Having been in Call of Duty for four years, Warzone's skill ceiling is slowly plateauing, but that was recently elevated in the World Series of Warzone as "Biffle", "Sage", and "Shifty" became victorious by a landslide.
Here, Shifty set his sights on the CDL, telling GGRecon that he wanted to try his arm at professional Call of Duty, an argument that ripped through the community as players debated whether he could make it or not, given the difference in genre.
The debate has now opened again in the case of Biffle, as it was found that at least one team was eyeing up offering him a contract prior to the start of the CDL season.
With this in mind, the Dropshot Podcast has now claimed that he could easily make the switch, and continued to claim Warzone is now harder.
"The best Warzone player in the world is way more skilful than being than being the best CDL player in the world," one host of the podcast said.
It's safe to say, that has not gone down well in wider CoD circles...
CDL community set ablaze by Warzone skill comments
Stepping up as the first batter to hit a home run in this debate was none other than Matthew "Nadeshot" Haag.
Nade instantly responded by saying, "No smokes, no 3rd parties, you just squaring up against 4 of the best players in the world. Would you rather do that on stage for $1,000,000 or would you rather run for 20 minutes on a map the size of Narnia avoiding gunfights and praying to god you get circle pull on final zone?"
"I don't doubt that there are a handful of players who compete in Warzone that could play at the highest level in Challengers or the CDL, but the argument about which is more difficult is a pretty easy decision," he added.
Other takes began to get a bit more heated.
"The brain-dead podcast brought to you by my left ass and my right ass," said Anthony "Zinni" Methodz.
"Anyone having access to podcast equipment is the downfall of humanity", continued Sam "Octane" Larew.
So far, not a single full-time Warzone player has yet to try and conquer the CDL, yet many of the retired CDL stars are ripping through the streets of Urzikstan, and even Seth "Scump" Abner walked away as the Warzone Solo Yolo World Champion.
Still, the debate will never be truly settled until the two branches of CoD begin to intertwine in both directions.
