It's back to the crime-riddled streets of Liberty City, as Niko Bellic pulls his pistol with potentially massive news for Grand Theft Auto IV. Joining the acclaimed automotive franchise in 2008, the fourth main entry in the GTA series is rightly held as one of its best.

In keeping with Rockstar Games' tradition of milking something for all it's worth, a well-hidden Easter egg teases that the 2008 classic is about to be revamped for a whole new generation. With 2021's maligned GTA Trilogy and hopes that we'll get the Expanded & Enhanced GTA V this year, it was only a matter of time until GTA IV got the same treatment.

Is GTA IV Getting A Remaster?

Over on YouTube, ZacCoxTV has found a sneaky Easter egg in the GTA Trilogy. Here, they pointed to a peculiar billboard change in the updated Grand Theft Auto III: The Definitive Edition. If you head over to the airport, the billboard now says "See you SOON" and has a plane taking off with Francis International Airport's signature underneath.

Previously, it hinted at a Miami setting, which proved to be a placeholder for the franchise moving to GTA Vice City as GTA III's successor. ZacCoxTV admits that this could be a teaser for GTA 6 returning to Liberty City setting, but with actual news on the next chapter being like looking for a needle in a haystack, a GTA IV remaster makes a little more sense.

It's interesting to note new of a mythical GTA IV remaster previously did the rounds in November. Here, leaker RalphsValve claimed a souped-up remaster will come to last and new-gen consoles (as well as PC) in 2023. Although it's a bit of a kicker that RalphsValve says multiplayer won't be included, at least you'll get plenty of bonus content thanks to the Episodes of Liberty City DLCs being included in the bundle.

What's Next For The GTA IV Remaster?

Rockstar is notoriously sketchy with its announcements, so don't expect anything soon. It's been nine years since we first enjoyed GTA V, and let's remember, GTA 6 hasn't even been officially announced yet. Of course, the idea of a GTA IV remaster has also led to worries Rockstar will push GTA 6 even further into the abyss.

While we know the main Rockstar hub is working on Expanded & Enhanced, it's entirely possible work on a GTA IV remaster could be outsourced to another studio. Then again, look how well that turned out for Grove Street Games with the GTA Trilogy. As much as we'd like to see Nico climb the crime ranks in 8K, we'll stick a pin in this one for now.
