The infamous baddie is back. General Shepherd, the moustached man behind the most monstrous betrayal in Call of Duty (or even gaming) history returns in Modern Warfare 2. Albeit with a brand-new look that some Transformers fans might notice.

Shepherd, once the leader of Task Force 141 marshalling Captain Price and co., is deemed to be alive in this new franchise reboot, confirming the timeline of MW2 will be before that of its 2009 predecessor. However, you can be forgiven for not noticing his arrival straight away.

Who Plays General Shepherd In Modern Warfare 2?

The latest Call of Duty; Modern Warfare 2 trailer showed off the "Launch Gameplay," also known as the campaign pre-release footage. This is because the early access will be exclusive to the story, rather than multiplayer.

One of the first faces that we're met with is the animated version of Glenn Morshower, the actor who plays General Sharp Morshower in Transformers (Transformers 1, Revenge of the Fallen, Dark Side of the Moon, and The Last Knight). Yoi might also recognise him as Enterprise-B navigator in Star Trek, and Secret Service Agent Aaron Pierce in 24.

Morshower's impressive portfolio of films and TV also includes cameos in Narcos, X-Men, Godzilla, and most recently, Ozark. Despite not quite having the same upper-lip hair as the original Shepherd, the change of actor might be best suited for the franchise, given that the character was killed in the 2009 series by the protagonist Soap - by way of an awesome throwing knife.

But this isn't the first time Morshower has featured in Call of Duty, and the answer to one of Modern Warfare 2's secrets has just unravelled in front of our eyes.

General Shepherd Confirmed To Be Elusive 'Overlord' In Modern Warfare franchise

Morshower was featured in the Call of Duty franchise before, although never on-screen. The esteemed performer played the voice actor for 'Overlord,' a behind-the-scenes commander of forces who was only ever spoken to via radio transmission. He coincidentally voiced a similar role of F.B.I announcer for Black Ops 2 multiplayer.

This might just bring Call of Duty cannon into play, confirming the Overlord was Shepherd all along. There are question marks around how Shepherd will play in Modern Warfare 2, given the fact that we know he was scheming for the downfall of the 141 force and American forces ever since the deaths of 30,000 men in Call of Duty 4.

Morshower has often played noble characters in his appearances on camera, portraying high-profile armed commanders. Could this be his one evil role? We'll be sure to see soon.
