As Fortnite prepares to rival other like-minded battle royale titles with its implementation of a Ranked mode, Epic Games has halted its progress as it finalises plans for its revised ordeal throughout 2023.

With plans up in the air for how Epic is tackling the potential transition into Chapter 5 before the end of the year - and fans still enjoying sexy Anakin - it now appears some more immediate updates have been delayed.

Ahead of Fortnite Ranked's release, Epic Games has announced a delay to the update, meaning your competitive urges won't be fulfilled today (May 16) as originally planned.

With Fortnite Ranked looking to usurp the similar Warzone mode and Apex Legends' new season, us competitive FN fanatics will have to wait a little longer to regain their victory crown and climb through the ranks.

Taking to social media, Epic Games confirmed that the original Ranked release date of May 16 has been pushed back, as both the competitive Build and No Build game modes have been sent in for some final tinkerings.

The downtime for Patch v24.40 will also see Arena be closed down, although the delay will see you be able to continue practising on that mode before Ranked is implemented. This could come as a blessing in disguise for people wanting to blow off a few cobwebs.

When will Fortnite Ranked go live?

Epic Games has now revealed that the v24.40 patch will release on May 17, pushing the update back by 24 hours to allow for a little extra time to sunset Arena and implement Ranked alongside a wealth of new content.

The new patch will also include the next iteration of a Spider-Man and Fortnite crossovers, with new Web Shooters and a Gwen NPC being added.

Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 is set to be the penultimate episode before we move onto Season 5 following Season 4. On the plus side, this means the first iteration of Ranked and Spidey shooters should be sticking around for a while.
