Epic Games is finally coughing up when it comes to Fortnite, and has permanently slashed the price of its V-Bucks currency by 20%. That's right, from today, you'll be able to get more bang for your V-Buck. The offer will be available across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

The official Epic Games site confirmed the good news and explained its reasoning behind the move. Better yet, it doesn't look like the cost of items is going up, meaning you really are saving a small fortune with V-Bucks.

In the blog, Epic said, "This isn’t a sale… these are new discount prices available anytime! We’re excited to pass along these savings to you and will continue to look for additional ways to bring value to all Fortnite players. Here’s how to snag your savings".

There's also a middle finger to Apple and Google if you're playing Fortnite on iOS or Android. Mobile players can nab discounted V-Bucks, but only if you're willing to pay Epic directly. It's a shrewd move from the video game publisher because it cuts out Apple and Google's 30% cut on purchases.

This step is the latest move in an ongoing game of chess between Epic Games, Apple, and Google. It's no secret that Epic went to war with Google over Fortnite's potential move to Android.

The developer refused to publish on the Google Play Store and asked gamers to download the .APK file directly to their phones. It was later retracted when Epic (eventually) agreed to go through Google and make the most of its potential Android goldmine.

The good news doesn't end there though. Anyone who bought V-Bucks from July 14 will be gifted free coins for their trouble. Finally, all active players can pick up a Shooting Starstaff Pickaxe for FREE. It's all part of the Fortnite Mega Drop, which sees Epic try to pay you directly and cut out the middleman.

It's important to remember Epic Games set up its own store as a way to try and stop Valve's dominance of the market. While the discounted V-Bucks are a coup for fans, it's a dangerous move to try and purposefully p*ss off Apple and Google. We've seen how developers who've tried to bypass their storefronts have come unstuck, so it's unclear whether Epic will also feel Apple and Google's wrath. For the time being though, gamers can bask in the glory of discounted V-Bucks.
