CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 was billed as something of a sci-fi Skyrim and was supposed to be an open-world giant that would keep us exploring Night City for decades to come. Instead, delays, performance issues, and the fact shareholders sued the developer meant that Cyberpunk 2077 cost CDPR a small fortune - it could be worse though, you could be trying to fill your car with petrol.
In a bizarre case of life NOT imitating art, it turns out fuelling your Cybertruck in Cyberpunk 2077 will actually cost you less than filling up your car in real life. The world is facing a fuel crisis right now, meaning it's never been more expensive in the history of automobiles to fill up a vehicle than in 2022. Considering the dystopian shooter is set in the world of 2077, we dread to think what gas prices will actually be in 55 years.
How Much Does Fuel Cost In Cyberpunk 2077?
If you've gotten behind the wheel in Cyberpunk 2077, you'll know this vibrant world has nailed a lot of tiny details. So much so, gas stations across this ravaged land have actually prices that could reflect where things will be at in 2077. According to the American Automobile Association, that's not the case at all - with Cyberpunk 2077 being cheaper than the current national gas price in the USA.
AAA claims that the current average for regular is $5.014, while Diesel is $5.771. Although prices vary across different states, the lowest price is in the South and the West has the highest. We should remember that gasoline and diesel have been replaced by CHOOH2 in Cyberpunk 2077 because it burns better - but this deadly concoction comes with side effects like blindness and even death.
Although some were unconvinced by the maths, one person wrote, "I just calculated it. Starting today at a gas price of $5, and assuming 2% inflation(lol) in 2077 gas would cost $15.1558 a gallon. So yes we're nearly at Cyberpunk levels right now, unless my math is wrong." Another pointed out that if a gallon of CHOOH2 is $4.80 and the highest grade costs $5.32, it's much cheaper than real-life fuel prices right now.
What's Next For Cyberpunk 2077?
After years of delays and a pretty disastrous launch, some of us thought that Cyberpunk 2077 would die a death. By April 2022, it's sold over 18 million copies and still has a loyal fan base. If that wasn't enough, there's still the long-awaited Cyberpunk 2077 DLC hoping to lure us back. Finally, CDPR has teased the potential of that transmog system players keep asking for.
Of course, critics are questioning whether Cyberpunk 2077 will soon be sidelined. The big news is that CDPR is finally working on a sequel to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We know The Witcher 4 is on the way from the developer, and hoping to put the Cyberpunk debacle behind it, CDPR should be back to the franchise it does best. In the meantime, we'll sit twiddling our thumbs and looking at gas prices while we wait for that massive Cyberpunk 2077 expansion.
