The most-awaited game of the year has been launched, with Cyberpunk 2077 looking to rocket gaming into a new stratosphere.

Within the first 24 hours of release Cyberpunk 2077, the game peaked at over 1,000,000 concurrent players according to statistics pulled from SteamDB, which topped the charts as the most played game on the platform. SteamDB's data also doesn't include the numbers of players on other platforms such as PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, Google Stadia, showing that the engagement of the futuristic open-world RPG.

With Steams records, Cyberpunk topped the charts on the platform for the most played game within the first couple of hours, making light work of both Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Dota 2.

Despite its massive engagement, the game was met with a variety of reviews following the discovery of many bugs and glitches alongside a struggle in maintaining frame rates and overall smoothness of the game.

Some high profile streamers such as Herschel "Guy" Beahm (Dr Disrespect) were blown away by the game. The Doc headed to Twitter to state "First impressions of Cyberpunk... wow wow wow wow wow".

As of writing, reflective reviews on Steam have the game at "mostly positive" with 72% of players giving Cyberpunk a huge thumbs up. Comments such as "you can pet the cat" and "I really loved the gameplay and the characters I got attached too" have been the most popular forms of feedback, although others were less than impressed.

However, steams reviews also are riddled with comments such as "oh my god the performance is not optimised at all and there are multiple bugs. Within my first 30 minutes, I had people doing T poses, sliding across the road, mouths not moving while they talk, or just straight up popping into existence".

With so many people to please, Cyberpunk's lift-off has been successful with a slight turbulence. With hope, they'll be able to patch up the performance and steer the ship to match it's astronomical expectations.
