CoD fans slam Modern Warfare 3 devs for missing staple game mode: "Why do devs refuse?"

Modern Warfare 3 will launch without a staple game mode and competitive fans especially are annoyed at this exclusion.

Call of Duty is pulling out Hermoine Granger's time turner this year after condemning us all to a year's sentence in the Azkaban-esque prison that was Modern Warfare 2.

Marketing the new game around nostalgia and consumer feedback appears to be the name of the game for Modern Warfare 3, rolling back the years to put us back on childhood landscapes with the characters we grew up with.

So why not use game modes of that era too? That's the question on the lips of Modern Warfare 3 fans, as it looks like the developers have snubbed a timeless classic.

Capture the Flag snubbed from Modern Warfare 3 game modes

The Modern Warfare 3 Beta already gave us a taste of some game modes that will arrive in the full game, with the new 3v3v3 Cutthroat mode being aired alongside some more classics like Team Deathmatch and Domination.

But ahead of the title's Early Access Campaign launch on November 2, the devs have now listed all the modes that will be available come launch, and Capture the Flag is nowhere to be seen.

Old-but-gold modes like War and Gun Game are even in the mix, and now Call of Duty competitive players are already dreading the Ranked playlist which will come in December, after it appears they will be forced to play Control, instead of something more map-suitable like Capture the Flag.

Call of Duty fans fearful for Ranked as Control is favoured over Capture the Flag

Instantly recognising Control had been favoured over CTF, fans took to social media to quiz the decision, especially when the snubbed mode suits the maps.

"Brought back War but not CTF? Why do these devs refuse to bring back iconic game modes?" quizzed one fan.

Another prosed a similar sentiment, adding, "I just fell to my knees in the middle of GameStop because there’s no Capture the Flag."

Even non-competitive fans also noticed some fan favourites like Headquarters and Gunfight were left out of the list, which will likely play into the hands of the live-service model.
