Cancelled Power Rangers Game Was Like Rocksteady’s Arkham Series
Power Rangers games haven’t exactly been hits in the past. The Tokusatsu classic has made many runs of the video game industry in the past, without ever truly making a cult classic. The most recent attempt was Power Rangers: Battle For The Grid, which made a swing at the 2.5D fighter, but didn’t get the chance to truly stick with fans of the Saturday morning classic.
Adding a little extra salt in the wound for Power Rangers fans, another game was once in development that could have genuinely brought the fighters to the gaming space in a more meaningful way than ever before.
What is the cancelled Power Rangers game?
A game that was once in development with the Power Rangers in mind has finally been revealed - after an ex-developer has shared some concept art. What we've seen indicates that it was inspired by Rocksteady’s Arkham series of Batman games.
The ex-developer, Jason Bischoff, revealed the game on Twitter, announcing that the then-titled ‘Project Nomad’ never got past the concept art phase.
The game was set to be an open-world co-op game, that took the mythos of the Rangers from a whole new perspective, and was pretty ambitious, according to Bischoff. He describes it as “Gotham Knights 5yrs before GK’s announcement”, implying that the game would likely adopt some ideas from the game’s combat system.
What Happened To The Open-World Power Rangers Game?
Sadly, the game never made it past the stage of concept art, and Bischoff explains why.
“While early talks with devs/ publishers was favourable, ultimately time + big shifts in our business saw conversations around Project Nomad peter out. These things totally happen! The industry is built on ‘what could have beens’.”
It’s a shame that the game never really saw the light of day, especially with concept art as good as this. It may have had a very real chance of bringing Power Rangers to the video game world for good - but it looks like we might have to wait a little longer for the eventual takeover of the Rangers.
