Apex Legends Devs Give Warning About Skull Town Return
Ah, Skull Town. Ever since the reveal of the Arenas game mode in Apex Legends, fans have been hoping for a map based on the tiny nook in King’s Canyon. That’s no exaggeration, either - even Respawn Entertainment said that the requests for the location to be added to the game mode started coming in no more than five minutes after it was announced in their recent patch notes.
And now, of course, fans are losing their minds at the Skull Town addition to the game - but developers have issued them a warning.
Apex Legends’ Warning To Fans About Skull Town
Respawn Entertainment has been sure to really hammer home the fact that Skull Town is most definitely not a permanent addition to the Arenas game mode. “Skull Town in Arenas will only be available for the duration of the Collection Event”, starts Dave ‘StryderPilot’ Osei in a comment response to a fan in the ApexLegends subreddit. “Once the event is done, it’s gone. It can always come back later.”
It’s news that might disappoint fans, but Osei is citing hardware limitations as the reason that Skull Town can’t stick around much longer.
“Currently, all BR Arena locations are using the full BR map to run. You might notice that they take the longest to load when matchmaking. This saved a ton of dev time during production of Arenas. To keep Skulltown, we’d have to find a way to separate it from OG King’s Canyon, which is also a limited time map. This requires other departments to get involved, and they’re pretty busy on future content. So we made the call to keep it limited.”
We’re glad to have some kind of clarification, but it’s still a shame that the map will remain limited. Jump into Arenas as soon as you can after the new event launches on June 29 - because you might not have much time to get your Skull Town plays in.
