'Tis the Season to grab a Volt and board the Winter Express, as Apex Legends launched its Holo-Day bash theme for the festive season.

The Winter Express will return bigger and better than it’s 2019 predecessor, which offers a different style of combat than the typical battle royale mode that Apex Legends is built upon. The 2019 LTM was one of the most popular game modes ever added to the game.

However, heading into the festive period, the new mode has come under criticism from some fans. Within a thread surrounding the Holo-Day Bash, players have branded the mode as “recycled” and have called for new and exciting modes instead.

Respawn Entertainment’s Senior Game Designer, Daniel Klein, has now hit back at these claims. Never one to shy away from negative discussions, Klein responded to the criticism by stating “I really wouldn't call Winter Express a recycled mode. Mark worked his a** off to make it so much better. Between the supply ships and the new stations and a LOT of behind the scenes changes to reduce downtime it feels so much better to me.”

Klein’s argument stems from the Winter Express being so popular. In comparison to other LTMs, the Winter Express has withstood the test of time, as many players normally get tired of LTMs after the first 3-4 days according to the developer.

With a lack of progress towards badges being available when playing modes such as the Winter Express, many comments stated that this is the reason for the dropoff. Respawn could continue badge progression on the LTMs to retain attention and see the popularity of the Winter Express surge.

Do the fans have a point or are they the Christmas Scrooges? Bah Humbug.
