It was a good run while it lasted, but in the fickle world of gaming, your time at the top is never going to last long. While Mediatonic's Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout soared to the top of the Steam sales chart, it's just been knocked from its pedestal by Among Us.

Despite InnerSloth's pint-sized title having been out for over two years, it's seen a boom in popularity thanks to streamers like Tyler "Ninja" Blevins, Imane "Pokimane" Anys, Félix "xQc" Lengyel, and Jack "CouRage" Dunlop hopping in for a round of murder mystery.

For those who haven't suited up for Among Us yet, up to 10 players play as doomed astronauts (we're guessing that's what's under those colourful skins) and try to keep their spaceship ticking along. The problem is, there's a murderous imposter/imposters hiding in the ranks. As well as sabotaging the ship's system, imposters will also kill off innocent crewmates. It's up to the survivors to find the killer among them in this Cluedo-inspired deduction game.

Even though we already knew Among Us was insanely popular, we've only just found out how popular that actually is and how it translates into numbers.

Analyst Daniel Ahmad shared some interesting stats on Twitter and confirmed Among Us has edged ahead of Fall Guys in the Steam sales chart. It also crossed another milestone when it secured 388,000 concurrent players on Steam, meaning it overtook PlayerUnknown's BattlegroundsAmong Us was ahead of PUBG but still sat behind Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2. Considering CS:GO, PUBG, and Dota 2 have a loyal fanbase of competitive play, it starts to become a little clearer that Among Us is a game that's everywhere right now.

So, what about Fall Guys? Unlike Among Us' 2018 release and lurking in the background until COVID-19 gave it the boost it needed, Fall Guys was brand new on the scene and went viral in a matter of moments. The battle royale party game pits those bouncing beans against each other and soared in popularity with talent including TimTheTatMan throwing their support behind it. Even if Among Us is in front right now, there's no escaping the fact that Fall Guys is still a massive game.

Elsewhere, Sensor Tower claimed Among Us has been downloaded a whopping 41.9 million times for mobile so far in September. This is way up from its 18.5 million downloads in August and streaks ahead of its 2.4 million in July. Considering Among Us comes from a team of just three developers, it's truly something amazing to behold. With new maps being added and Among Us 2 reportedly on the way, we'll have to wait and see how long InnerSloth can hold onto its monopoly.
