The Witcher 3 Devil By The Well Walkthrough
The Witcher 3 Devil By The Well quest is found in the prologue area of White Orchard making it the first Witcher contract in the game you can accept. To start this quest, either head to the notice board at the White Orchard Inn, or speak to Odolan in his hut. Regardless of how you start it, you will be informed that his daughter has fallen ill due to drinking toxic water from the nearby river, and he needs you to help him access a well that is guarded by a Noonwraith. It's also worth noting that you need to finish this contract before starting the On Thin Ice main quest later in the game.
Once you have your objective, head toward the abandoned village in White Orchard. If it's close to noon, you will see the Noonwraith wandering around, and while you can attack it, you won't be able to fully defeat it yet, so ignore it and move on toward the huts. Using your Witcher sense, you will find an old diary in one of the huts telling you that the Noonwraith is bound to the well by a bracelet.
Head over to the well and inspect it to find a rope with a hanging corpse, causing Geralt to mutter that the bracelet will have fallen into the well. Interact with the well and jump down into the water below. Once in the cavern below, use your Witcher sense, locate the bracelet in the water, and then follow the path into the next pool of water and out of the cave.
Now you're back outside, head to the well and burn both the body and the bracelet, which will trigger the boss fight with the Noonwraith. You may want to use Specter Oil on your silver sword to make the fighter a bit easier too.
The only way to damage the Noonwraith is by using Yrden to return them to their corporeal form, allowing you to get hits in. At some point they will also summon other wraiths and begin to heal, focus on the other wraiths here, quickly defeating them so you can start attacking the Moonwraith again and stop them from healing too much. Once you have defeated the boss, head back to Odolan with the trophy.
You'll get 50 XP and you can accept his payment, but you can also refuse to get an amethyst instead. You can also do an extra step after finishing with Odolan, by visiting the local herbalist Tomira and talking to her about the wraith. Speaking with her will net you some gold, XP, and alchemy ingredients.
